Ok I have a few questions regarding this. The first is that my brother has a Mac computer and from what I can recall, he couldn't get the official patch for BG2:ToB downloaded AND working. So what would help with that? Sorry if you need specifics on that, I don't mess with his stuff so I don't know the specs too well, etc.
The second question is, Can a Mac and PC play across the internet or is this just not possible? I'm not too sure and neither is my brother seeing as we don't play online enough. If they can work, what must we do to make sure it succeeds aside from the obvious of making sure our games run the same?
The last question is what mods can be used over the internet successfully?

Yes you can play PCvMac (my old BF had a Mac) and any mods you like as long as you both have the same.

If he's having trouble installing the patch, I would suggest installing Virtualbox, loading a virtual windows XP partition, and installing on there. If he doesn't want to do that, the following link is for you. Scroll down to TMWNN's second post.
Note they have the GOG download install, and are modding it to BGT, so you don't need to do everything they do.

Well, he told me that the patch dealt mostly with the Umar hills loading screen and that it is working fine, but we'll see when we get our multiplayer game going.

My game freezes when I start a multiplayer game. It's completely fine for single player, but it freezes when I try to start a multiplayer game.
