I'd be hard pressed to come up with one that is a worse one. I think you'd have to go all the way back to ET on the atari, a game so bad that it literally has its own landfill.

Spoiler alert! If you haven't finished Batman Arkham City yet, go. Play it now. Sell back ME3 to buy it if you don't own it. :P See how a well written ending is done. Then go finish it up with the Avengers (in 3D of course) at the theaters. That is everything Mass Effect 3 should have been.

The ending to Arkham City was so unexpected, but so well written. It's exactly right. They really got the relationship between Joker and Batman down perfectly. You can see how guilty Batman feels, and him giving Joker one last laugh was touching in a way. Tali might have mourned a geth, but that ending got me a bit misty-eyed over the death of one of the most evil characters in history. :)

dose batman die and Gothum gets blown up in a rainbow coloured explosion while a small child tell you you
have to pick how you wand to destroy the world?

sorry I'm sure it's a grate ending and all but I have got to the point where I expect the entertainment industry to make everything depressing grim and dark for the sake of maturity.

Even the incomplete ending to KotOR II was better than this crap.

Kerplunk has a bad ending. Oh wait...this generation? And video games right?...never mind. But suffice to say I am in agreement with most posts...all of them. Even Rage, as one of the other posters pointed out. And I liked that game too..right till the end.

Yep, definitely Halo 3's. Also, Gears of War 3.

GoW3 had an awesome ending. That was bittersweet, Marcus' dad dying right when he finally gets to meet him and everyone with major traces of imulsion dying, and the whole world just being a giant graveyard, but the people of Sera can finally rebuild.

But ME3? Blargh, that didn't even make sense.

DA2's ending was bad but at least it was bearable, plus the fact that it basically said COME FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENS IN THE NEXT GAME means that not everything (for the time being) is screwed over.

A generation is gererally defined by the current consoul systems so Duke Nukem Forever is in this generation.

I was going to go with from last gen the old Aquaa Man game. Or this gen the Super Man returns game, the Resident evil 5 game and even

I lovd Gears 3 ending, it didn't go all crazy and kill people off for drama and shock effect, Hell I thought that we'd finally ended that stage of it's the end lets killl eeveryone off

Bhala Halo 3 standard ending was great, hell no matter what it was better then ME3 it killed eevery one that mattered and I still felt happy about it. Wiat it hept Keith David alive haha that makes it better by a landslide IMO

Well, the good guys win, the bad guys lose spectacularly. It is a bit sad, but only because the villains are well written enough that they're somewhat likable. So like I said, by far one of the best endings to anything (not just game) I've seen in a long time, and rivalled only by the ending to The Avengers. Which again, if you haven't seen it, go. The "Puny God" moment had my literally giddy, giggling like a schoolgirl. It was awesome! Both of those are a must see/play for any comic book fan, and Avengers is a must see for pretty much anyone.

The Witcher 2? They should add two cups of tea to that lovely conversations those two ****ers have, before it's over. 30 minutes of truth, spoken by the same guy that's supposed to beat the **** out of you? I even thought "this guy's trying to kill me by boring me to death". At least, I have the option to let him go.
And TW2 is a transposition from a book!

VG's endings are all the same. Big boss fight, 2 minutes of cut-scenes, credits roll. Someone should stop this 30 year old trend.

I think that sums it up.

Off topic: I noticed a lot of people commending Gears 3's ending. Personally, I found it a bit disappointing. Epic Games sort of pulled their own deus ex machina (thought I'd throw the term  out there, since it's one of the most-used terms/phrases on the forums, up there with "speculation" and "space magic"). Marcus' dad suddenly knows a way to conveniently kill both the Imulsion parasite and the locust. I think that qualifies as, "A problem is suddenly and abruptly solved with the contrived and unexpected intervention of some new event, character, ability, or object."

Not trying to bash on Gears though. Still a better DEM than ME3's.

I have been playing games since the DOS days, and I can honestly say every other game I have ever played has a better ending than ME3. ME1 and especially ME2 are up there with my best endings in video games.

I'll be honest, the emotional investment vs payoff obviously has a lot to do with.

Bioware fumbled the ball on the touch line. All they had to do was bring it home ... doing what they had been doing for the previous 100 hours of gameplay, but they got all artistic and screwed up what should have been the best game franchise this older gamer has ever played.

I agree 100%

I wouldn't say Adam Fenix's superweapon is a legitimate DEM. A DEM, by definition, has to be highly unlikely and completely out of left field.

I'd say his superweapon is closer to Fridge Brilliance than a DEM. Or a feaux-MacGuffin

I suppose you have a point, but the term isn't the issue. Of course, Gears wasn't meant to have a deep story; It was meant to see how far you can make giblets fly in different directions. The story is more a bonus, in my opinion.

Agreed. I played the dreaded third installment first, unfortunately, and hoped to find solace in it's predecesors. I beat ME1 about five day ago and loved every minute. Consequentially, I borrowed the second one and was eqally impressed, even though it did not feel quite as open and the main story was a bit weak.

Every one. The only comparibly bad ending is probably RAGE, but that's "forgiven" because the entire game is mediocre.
