Hey everyone, I've only had the game for a few days now and I'm having a particuarly troubling issue. I've gotten to camp where I can now ask Sandal the dwarf to enchant my items. However, every time I talk to him the menu pops up and is extreamly graphically distorted. Then when I tried it for the last time today the game froze and Windows gave me an error message.
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Program: C:\\Progam Files\\Dragon Age\\bin_ship\\DAOrigins.exe
R6025
-pure virtual function call
Is this happening to anyone else? Can anyone help me with this?
I don't underdstand what's wrong as I downloaded Patch 1.02 and I have the latest drivers for my graphics card and the latest DirectX.
These are the specs for my machine.
Dell Inspiron 1520
Intel Core2 Duo @2.00GHz
3 GB of RAM
Windows XP Service Pack 3
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
Thanks

Have you patched your game to the 1.02 version just before this?

No I actually had not. I didn't download the patch until the bug occurred for the first time.

Hmmm, well, one thing I did was uninstall the Visual C++ 2005 runtimes and downloaded the more recent 2008 version from Micro$haft. Then I uninstalled the Nvidia PhysX that the game installed and downloaded the latest version from there and installed, finally, make sure you have the latest driver for your video card.
(I have only ATI video cards, so I know the game installs a version of PhysX, I just built this computer and it never had anything Nvidia near it)

Hey whtnyte-raernst,
I just did uninstalled both those and items and reisntalled the most recent versions, the bug continues happening. I guess I'll have to go the whole game without enchanting any of my items. sigh...

Which version of the game have you got? And do you have the toolset installed?

I have the vanilla version and the latest patch installed. No, I don't have the toolset installed.

Vanilla version...? DVD or Digital? If digital from EA, Steam, D2D or Impulse?

It's DVD.

Have you done a full Microsoft Update? On XP you have to do it manually and pick "custom" rather than express... there's more directions and a link in the troubleshooting FAQ sticky

I'll try that. Thanks!

Nothing is fixing it!!! I've downloaded every possible windows update, driver update, everything and anything you name it. I even started a new game and got all the way to the camp again with Sandal and it happened again. I really want to play the game through with enchantments! Can anyone help me? If not, I'm just going to call the BioWare support line tomorrow.

I have one last idea you can try. Try installing the Games for Windows: Live 3.0 Client here. I had this installed prior to the original patch and it had updated the Visual C++ Runtimes and helped me avoid the 1.01a bug (it installed the necessary runtimes for itself) so it might help. Worth a shot as a last ditch, since I'm about out of ideas on why VC++ would be acting up on the enchantment only.

Good luck with the helpline folks. Sorry I couldn't get this one nailed down. It's probably something scrambled in the registry or something... some things are just very hard to troubleshoot without getting hands-on with the box in question.

In the meantime give this a try.
Make a copy of your save games.
Uninstall the game and use a registry cleaner, I use www.eusing.com/free_registry_cleaner/registry_cleaner.htm
Then reinstall, repatch and use your saved files.
Good luck.
