Kind of like playing the first Deus Ex mission and realizing that the entire Liberty Island was one GIANT map/level.

I really loved what the Unreal engine could do.

The Legend of Zelda on the NES, opening music and credits.
Castlevania on the NES opening credits.
Ninja Gaiden on the NES cut scenes.
Phantasy Star 2 on the Genesis, Nei death scene.
Wipeout XL on the Playstation, sensory overload, my eyes actually hurt I played it so much.
Castlevania Symphony of the Night on the Playstation, amazing soundtrack and magnitude of the game.
Descent Freespace, first really great capitol ship battles.
Morrowind, so many options of play, customization and such a mind numbing confusion of where to go.
Baldur's Gate, entering the city as a mage/thief and burglarizing the huge quantity of homes. It blew my mind how huge and cool the city was compared to other roleplaying adventure games at the time.
Icewind Dale was awesome too as others have said, with the atmosphere and music that kept me going till the end despite a very linear plot and little NPC interaction.
Tribes and Tribes 2, still the best multiplayer team based FPS combat I've enjoyed and the first great vehicle/base oriented combat game. Few things were more gratifying than piloting a troop transport with heavy armors and mortars into a base and laying waste to it...well other than shooting down a loaded transport with a Shrike fighter. Also, the rare mid-air disc kill was damn fun.
Medal of Honor, Omaha Beach landing.
Homeworld's massive battles and finding out I could kamikaze certain ships into major threats to defeat them.
Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2's last four hours of gameplay in both games were really addictive and compelling. (No comment on ME 3 yet, I haven't picked it up)
Skyrim's intro and several moments throughout the game. As soon as I feel like I've overplayed it I go back and find something that suprises me. I'm currently going crazy happy over the buggy yet fun mounted combat.
All of the Total War games, specificly Medieval 2 and Shogun 2 and winning heavily outnumbered battles. Seeing thousands of troops fight in replays of well fought battles still gets me, love it!

That was more of a WTF moment for me.
I had been a mage supporter up until that point.

More like a punch to the gut that one. I liked Anders in Awakening, but that act made me absolutely hate him. I could not kill him fast enough.Tommyspa wrote...

Talking about Dragon Age though. Another example:

The Joining (Dragon Age Origins) - The first few hours, DA felt like pretty generic fantasy. That is, until this moment.

Well, I wasn't just refering to him blowing the chantry, but his dialog as well, I think his VA gave it everything during those words. Oh man when he comes in before it blows, *goosebumps* everything just went to hell and all you can do is watch dumbfounded. Say what you will about how Act 3 goes too fast and is rushed that section before you get back to gameplay and run through lowtown was well done for what it was.bmwcrazy wrote...
