Let's say I was desperate for some "decent" help and I offered to actually pay coders, modelers, etc. for their assistance - would this be allowed?

I don't see why not, but that's pretty insanely desperate. The only thing I'd be willing to pay for would be professional VO work/art - coders (of which I am one) are a dime a dozen and the scripting language and concepts  involved with DA:O are pretty trivial.

Why not start a project instead and try to recruit members?

yes you are allowed to pay people for the job they do. but you can't charge for the final product so you will lose money on the deal. unless you got a DLC contract with bioware.

Recruitment of volunteers who will work for free has never been easier! On the "Find More Friends" screen, try checking "Programmer" and "Available for Projects". Right now I can see 24 names there, including more than one whose path we are not worthy to strew with rose petals... :wizard:

I have. But recruitment will be difficult. I'm still organizing things, but it looks like some voice overs may need re-recorded, etc. Basically, I hope to recreate an older adventure game and in the Dragon Age engine. I was able to acquire all of the primary assets - but some things just need re-worked. There are even voice overs of things never implimented in the original game. I'll have an announcement soon enough, but - I just wanted to make sure that if things got really desperate, I'd have something to resort to.
