Yes the Katana is a good example of a balanced single weapon used with both hands, still a samurai would have a tough time against a knight or any trained warrior with a good shield and will probably lose the duel.

You can still try to make a single weapon duelist with a rogue if you take all the rogue combat talents like deadly strike, all the duelist talents which really aren't that bad if your so focused on single weapon use, and assassin talents as well for more damage, and if you dont mind cheating, get that duelist's glove mod that someone kindly provided a link for and you may be able to survive as single weapon duelist, if you keep a low profile

Yeh thats what I'm looking for but there is a problem... I am a Dragon Age Xbox gamer (Yes we do exist).  thats part of the problem. this has always angered me about this kind of thing, like in oblivion there was allot of cool ideas out there but Bethesda got lazy and said "Meh... Let the computer players do it. we don't wana." and now nig surprise bioware is doing the same thing... ALLOW XBOX PLAYERS TO DOWNLOAD PLAYER MADE MODS!

It's a bit more complicated than just allowing console players to download mods. Heck, you can download mods right now and put them on your 360, but you won't get anywhere. I remember there being talks about Bioware trying to foster a mod community on 360; but I can't remember if it was just in passing.

Either way; the one handed look is still available in the console game, granted you wont have the stat bonuses offered by alternatives. I just don't see this as a pressing issue either way; out of the many things people are clambering for, I'm afraid your request falls in to a minority =(

Just to support the OP position. In Baldur's Gate 2 there WAS a one handed weapon style that you could become proficient in, so it wouldn't be unheard of for Bioware to have it in this game.

However, it was primarily for characters who would switch between bow and melee weapon quickly, as the bow took up your offhand and switching weapon sets didn't allow for a shield or offhand weapon. IRL, it would make much more sense that you couldn't go right from a bow to weapons in both hands or sword/shield, but since it's not an issue in this game...

Another point in defense of OP is that the entire sport of fencing is all about one weapon single handed style, and the "duelist" prestige class in DnD (or Neverwinter Nights) did focus on one weapon. If you look at famous fight scenes from old Robin Hood movies or the Princess Bride, you'll see lots of single weapon style where the offhand is used for balance and flexibility, or even for allowing some kinds of acrobatics to maneuver around the combat area.

I'm just glad shields got some loving. Shields were often used for offense as well as defense, and are extremely lethal if you know how to use it. Plus placing something between you and death is always handy.

There's very little point about getting angry about this. It is *no* secret that actually creating a situation where console players can freely download and use mods is effectively impossible given the current attitude that MS, and to a lesser degree, Sony currently take. It is only possible on PCs because of the inherent lack of governance on the internet compared to the kind of control Sony and MS can impose over their online community.

You knew this when you chose to purchase the console version. You pays your money and you takes your choice. PC games are inherently less stable and conversely more flexible. Simply demanding all the pros and none of the cons is just being unrealistic. The heavy amount of control exerted by console manufacturers means that unregulated concepts like free downloading of mods made by toolsets is extremely difficult to support.

That doesn't make up for the injustice of console gamers being denied mods - but it does mean that getting angry about something that you were well aware of when purchasing the game isn't exactly sensible.

Nor does it help the community, where the developers spend time re-doing mod material and selling stuff for the benefit of the console players rather than spending time developing something great that is of equal benefit to all the players.

there are modifications you can make to the Xbox 360 to allow
access to player made mods but to put them in separately costs allot of cash.
and I would have chosen to get it for the computer cause pc gaming has way more
benefits but I lack the necessary funds for the computer to run it. All i'm
suggesting is that bioware just scans through the player made mods and tweaks
them enough so everyone can enjoy them. but if not I doesn’t really matter I
got what I asked for when I bought it and trust me the game is good enough as
is I was just saying.

Every one seems to forget that dragon age is a dark FANTASY game. Doesnt matter what history says, many of us bought this game fantasizing about a badass long sword wielding warrior, I know I did. I was bummed when I didn't see it in the talents. Bioware should have included one handed styles, I was missled with the trailers and opening story line in charactar creation(they both had one handed warriors in some scenes)

To answer the original question:

Because "I can beat you with one hand tied behind my back" is just a figure of speech.

I think, dual wielding is much more complicated than most people give it credit for. When done right, it is impressive and you will decimate a singe sword user. However against someone who is neither ambidexterous, nor has had copious amounts of training with 2 weapons, I can still beat them with a single sword.
Single sword is much more common than 2 swords.

2 of the most common mistakes I see newbie dual wielders do are: 1. get their weapons tangled up. 2. forget about their off hand weapon as they fall into a single weapon dueling stance.

But against a shield, a dual wielder is toast.
It's pretty even odds against a 2-Hander though.

Basically all they need to do is give the two-handed abilities a speed boost when using a single handed weapon.

'dual wielding' is hard. i mean, i leave practice for more than month, and i start to forget the more complex movements and revert to the simpler patterns. (almost half a decade of arnis and what can i show for it? sinawali? redonda? my teacher/s should've given me a concussion already...I deserve it :wizard: )

while I haven't fought against anyone w/ a shield yet (if memory serves, anyway...), I don't see why a dual wielder will automatically be 'toast'.

- I wish my xingyi/taiji teacher knew this form (or any xingyi weapon form for that matter)...I only learned taijijian.
