Play the games in order, treat it like a trashy B movie. Resist the temptation, quite common in the first and even the second game, to get invested in the setting. You'd just be setting yourself up for crushing disappointment come ME3. Instead treat it like a movie on MST3K.

Op just take it slow and enjoy the game. And you can read the codex if you don't understand something or go to the Mass Effect wiki. I advice that you do some research before playing to understand the series. Thats what i did with Mass Effect and Skyrim. Also note that it can be a little overwhelming first.

It sure was overwhelming but I read every CODEX whenever I get one.  I like the voiced CODEX's too, they're cool.

Yes, I'm presently doing surverys and trying like CRAZY to get control of the Mako.  It is VERY difficult to drive!  LOL.

I did all of the assignments at the Citadel and man what a nice place THAT is!  I'd LOVE to live there!

I'm playing on a PC using Xpadder but I am getting a Xbox for my birthday with a ton of games and ME1 is one of them, hence my question about bringing over a save from the PC to the Xbox.

But I have all three games for the PC, got the Xpadder profiles set up and they work fine and I gought all the DLC for all of them.  This game is very immersive.  I play a lot of Skyrim too so it's cool to go back and forth.

To play Mass Effect, play it naturally, but I warn you: not playing the first two games, you will not enjoy it as mush as we do, proved by one of my friends, who never liked Mass Effect because he didn't understand anything from it.

Who the /hell/ starts with the third game in a series?

Granted, there's some hypocrisy here; I started with ME 2, but only because I couldn't afford ME1 at the time. (believe it or not, ME1 was twice the price of ME2, both used.)

Ah Mako. People either loved it or hated it. I had never got attached to a vehicle in a game since Ebon Hawk but Mako is special =) It's hard at first but once you accept it's better at climnbing and jumping rather than just moving on a straight road, you'll be fine ^^

And may I suggest maybe you edit the first post (if you can) so that people stop berating you for starting with 3? Just saying lol. Your choice.

I'm starting with ME1, I have ME2 and ME3 waiting to go after I finish #1.

Well, I too re-re-begin ME1 too, and look to see it through in time again, so I can relate to the difficulty and wish good luck to fellow ME gamers, so good luck and god speed.

install the Extended Cut DLC BEFORE you start playing Mass Effect 3.

INSTALL THE EXTENDED CUT DLC.
IT WILL HELP YOU SLEEP AT NIGHTS.

Nah, finished 1, playing 2 and will play 3.  I'm having too much fun to run away.

I know a lot of people don't lke the ending but it's just a game.  Only a game.  When I finish these I'll move on to other games I haven't played yet.  Doesn't mean I don't find it very immersive and engrossing and I like how decisions in one game affect the next but it doesn't dominate my life or thoughts.  It's just fun to play.

Enjoy man the trilogy of your life.
They're all amazing games.

ME3, i recommend buying "From Ashes" DLC before you start the game.

And don't forget when you're going up, close your eyes ...

Just kidding, best SP experience ever.

I have been.  I finished ME1, carried Shep through to ME2 and I'm halfway through it now and can't wait to start 3.  Awesome games!

The Vancouver and Mars missions do offer some onscreen hints to aid you. Also, I find it helpful to view the control scheme in the options, get a feel for it before I begin. If you want some backstory, I recommend playing 1 & 2, although you don't have to. Alternatively, you can go here to the ME wiki: http://masseffect.wi...ss_Effect_Wiki. Multiplayer can also be eased into by playing some single player first to get used to it. Enjoy the game!

This is my first post.  I have never played any of the ME franchise nor do I know the story.
I'm playing this on a PC with Xpadder and an Xboc 360 controller.

I printed the manual and even have the Prima guide but it still doesn't show some simple things.

Questions: How do I use that cool looking blade?  I think it's called an omni blade?
I don't understand how to control a squad.
So far all I've gotten to is the point where there is an injured person, they haven't even gotten to the Normandy yet.  I know they do because I've seen several YouTube walkthroughs but even they assume a body of knowledge about the game I don't have.

I have many more questions that I hope someone will be able to answer and I apologize in advance as I am a complete and total newbie to this game.  Thanks for any help as I really want to play this game.

I don't understand why people keep telling me to RUN.  Why?  Does the game scare you?  Do you hate the ending SO much you have to try to warn others off it?  Have you crossed the line between reality and fantasy not remembering that this is just a GAME?  A G-A-M-E?  Real life does go on you know.  I mean REAL life.  If people can't separate fact from a sci-fi game then maybe they shouldn't be playing games at all.

I enjoyed ME1, am ENJOYING ME2, and look forward to ME3 and I couldn't care LESS how it ends.

Stop bugging me and telling me to run unlesss you get cheap thrills with telling others what to do.  If you want me to RUN then give me a REASON to run.

No, it's not scarry. You'll just be hurt, terribly hurt. After spending 5 years, creating your story, caring for the characters, caring for your hero, caring for the Galaxy, getting emotionally involved with everything in this trilogy, seeing how all your choices have a good side and a bad, seeing how all your choices affect the game, AND after all this you get that stupid ending, in which none of your decisions really matter, yeah, I'd say it's pretty fuc.ked up. So, run while you still can.

Edit: Oh, and you couldn't care less about how it ends ? Well, tell me more about how much you know about ME story.

Now there's the difference between us. I do not get emotionally involved. To me it's just another game in a long line of games. I have read the two novels, some of the comics, read a lot of Wiki backstory articles but I do this just to get better informed about the story. It's all made up. I don't understand how people can get emotionally involved in a game. As for five years. Well I guess that's how long it took to make all three but I'm playing them back to back, zing, zing, zing. When it's over I play another game and forget all about this series.

Sarcasm detected: From what I read a LOT of people don't like then endings.  It doesn't matter how it ends to me because the next day I'll be playing another game.  This game is interesting and fun to me, but it's just another pop-up shoot-em-up with some strategy.  It's fun and I like doing goofy things in the game but at the end of the game my kids have me more emotionally involved with them than a game.  Real life does exist you know.  I can go for weeks without playing this game and pick it right up.

You asked for advice. I gave you one, now if you don't like it, don't follow. Now stop acting like a 3 y/o and don't throw me that "kid" crap.
