I wish I could start over with fresh eyes. It's a great gaming experience. Just know that the first game can take a very long time and is a little clunky. Talk to your squadmates a lot. 1 and 2 are very different, and 3 is a kind of hybrid. The first game can test your patience. If you get bored with shifting through armor and driving around on planets, my advice would be to just stick with the story missions. And explore the Citadel very carefully. And don't get attached to the Mako. (I doubt you will.) ; ). But the story is dynamite and the second game just keeps it rolling. By the third, you'll be emotionally invested. Which is why the ending has caused such a weird reaction.

Play and enjoy.

I really like the helpful posts here by generous ME fans that put aside their hate for the ending in order to help a newcomer enjoy the series with three great games and an emotional story ahead of them. Reminds me of the fans five ago--everyone excited toward the possibilities and no negativity in sight. Enjoy JackSwyr!

Play all the 3 games from the first one, otherwise don't even bother.  The 3 games is a triology that follows one big story. Unless you play them all it won't be as fullfilling.

I WISH they would make Dragon Age 2 for the PC. I even sent a request but they never got back to me.

...

Dragon age 2 IS out for the PC

You're right it is.  My bust, I meant Dragon's Dogma.

I see, lol. Yeah I'd like that one for PC too :)

Start with anygame you feel comfortable with choose your class wisely and decide do you want to be a hero? then choose the paragon path and be nice to people in conversations if not and you want to be badass and nasty too people then choose renegade.
Just enjoy an amazing trilogy of games you have your work cut out for you as the normandy will be all yours to enjoy:)

I recommend two different styles of play, that I enjoyed. The first is the Sentinel, the second is the Claymore Soldier.

And check them out on youtube. Plenty of excellent gameplay there.

Well, so far today I got ME1 started but first I had to program Xpadder so I can play it in my PC with the Xbox controller. It's an excellent game and man that Citadel. I'd LOVE to live there!

I've been taking everyone's advice and starting out slowly. Now I see whay they said to start with ME1 because of the huge story arc. This is a great game and I don't care how it ends, I just like having fun with it.

Hey guys, I just started watching Return of the Jedi yesterday and I was wondering if you could help me answer some questions - Im totally new to the franchise.

How does Luke (I think that's his name?) move things without touching them? Is he psychic or something? Who was the little green martian guy who died? Oh, and what's going on with Han and Leia, I heard somewhere that they're supposed to be brother and sister! And why doesnt Darth Whats-his-name ever take of his helmet? This movie makes no sense, help!

Kidding, OP ;)

But seriously, play all three games - you'll enjoy it more that way :)

That's how I began. Great minds think alike! To be honest, the soldier is the brute force and ignorance class and I'd say probably the best way to start as a newbie. That's because you basically just shoot things with the best weapons and you can learn about biotics and tech powers more as you move through the game.

What's so wrong about wanting to play all three?  Some people hate it some people love it.  ME?  It's just a game.  Life goes on.  If I read a book and I don't like the ending I don't fire off a letter to the author or publisher, I just chalk it up to it being a lousy book and go on to the next book.

Well said Jack, I couldn't have said it better myself. Whilst I agree with others that the endng to the third game is nowhere near perfect, not even close, I'm damned if I'm gonna let it stand between me and the endless hours of fun I've gotten from these games. And I fully anticipate many more hours of pleasure as Commander Shepard too :o) These games rock and you just enjoy it and let us all know of your feelings when you've beaten Mass Effect 3.

It's not a lie -- it's merely untrue. Or rather, not-true.

Play the Trilogy and its DLC, be disappointed with ME3 ending, or believe in IT theory(that's what I did), and be actually somehow positive about the ending, if that doesn't work come back here to BSN and rage all the time or move on to another games.

do yourself a favour and start with ME1. Then you'll be loving ME2 by the time you drop into it. All the DLC for ME2 is worth getting. Zaeed + Lair of the Shadow broker especially. Shadow broker is probably the best DLC in any game ever.
