I can't recommend highly enough playing 1, 2 then 3. It's a MASSIVE experience, beyond just some gaming. I'm also an oldie, who has gamed since Space Invaders (1978?) and ME is the best series of my gaming 'career'. I've re-played the game to the point of almost (only almost...) ruining it lol.

I was reading through your post, and I remembered when I started to play mass effect, it was barely on Nov, 2011, I had been looking for the first game after I downloaded the demo of mass effect 2 (I play on xbox 360) and was very intrigued by it and by the trailers I had seen so far for Mass effect 3 Image IPB, I live in Mexico and I could not find if for some reason Image IPB, but then I found it, and started playing it and wow just wow, I've been playing lots of games it's my hobby to relax, and I had never seen something like this

I finished mass effect 1 started it again, and decided that I immediately had to get mass effect 2, got that one like 3 weeks latter, and the wow kept going. Finished Mass effect 2 went back to 1 and so on and forth.

At first I was like you its a game, but the more I played it the more I was drawn in to, its such and amazing experience all 3 of them, I completely understand that to some players its just not a game, its a personal experience if you like to put it that way, and that’s why you see flames Image IPB when you come here

Don't take it personal JackSwy once you play all the games you will understand Image IPB

A game I wasted playing over 60 hours and for what? Nothing! Shepherd's dead and he'll never have any kids.

So what?

Surviving and having kids wasn't Shep's primary motivation in the first place. If that's yours, you're RPing him wrong.

It would've if you romanced Shepherd with a LI!

You should play ME1 and ME2. Then use your imagination to create ME3. Because the real game is like a child discovering that santa isn't real.

Thanks to all the people who have welcomed me and for your recomendations. I have been using them. I can now see how this game could draw you in and you'd get emotionally invested in it.

Don't anyone tell me but I wanna find out what happened when Shepard absorbed the beacon and the Turian was furious about it. Something must have gotten into him from the beam.

Also, was that a Reaper ship on Eden Prime or a Geth ship? It LOOKED like a Reaper ship but I'm not sure. My son and I have a running "argument" about it.

You made a great choice to start from the beginning. ME1 is my favorite because of the storytelling and exploration.I was introduced to the ME series through the PS3 so I played ME2 first. Loved it that it motivated me to buy a new PC and played ME1. So glad I did - it made my experience all the richer.

I love reading about your progression through the game, brings back awesome memories. And yes, it's a reaper ship :) Don't forget to chat up all the folks consistently until you've exhausted their convo options.

That's not true for every Shepard. If my Shep survives and is reunited with her LI, she'll have zero interest in kids. Depends on the Shep/player.

To the OP - have a fantastic time! Don't let naysayers in here inform your experience. If I'd done that I'd never have discovered my favourite character. I got an Xbox just to play the series all the way through (I only had a PS3 before). Enjoy it! :)

Thanks, I will keep posting, this game is a LOT of fun.  I THOUGHT it was a Reaper ship!  My son just groaned LOL!

I LOVE talking to everyone and learning everything I can through the CODEX.  I'm still learning how to use tactics, like what situations to tell a squad mate to use a power and telling them where to go and stuff like that.  I'll get the hang of it yet.

More impressions. Lots of elevator rides. Lots of side missions. I like the map and journal features. Had some sound issues but I resolved them by modifying a config file. I like all the different alien races. I like the assignments and how they're triggered, I also like the way the little box pops up unobtrusively on the right when you get XP and such. The screen is uncluttered and I like the little radar on the bottom right. It's fun talking to everyone and the scenery is awesome. Overall ME1 is turning out to be a very fun ride.

lol, i gotta say something about this.......

by the time you get to ME3, everything you just wrote down there will no longer be part of the game. i know ive warned you enough. but you literally just wrote down some of the exact things that were removed from ME1 to make ME2 and ME3.

also, the key to combat at first is pausing the game. whenever you dont know what to do, or your about to die, IMEDIATELY pull up the power wheel and assess your surroundings. its a really helpfull aide. you can even line up headshots while the power wheel is up. i remember playing ME1 and not figureing out the mako has 2 weapons. a machine giun and a canon, so watch out for that too.

have you came across a thresher maw yet?

yeah you can do alot of quests on the citadel right away. ME1 really gives you alot of freedom in doing what you want when you want it. im really jealous of experiencing ME1 for the firs time! i hope your smoking fat joints.

i think youve already mentioned this, but what class, background, and sex are you?

do you think saren is awesome yet?

Male, soldier, spacer, sole survivor.

I think Saren is not cool. He looks like trouble. I wonder what he and Shepard saw in that beam. NO SPOILERS please, I'm just wondering and I'll just have to wait to find out.

My advice is start at ME1 and play the whole trilogy. DLC included if you have the money. but maybe hold off beating ME3 until the Extended Ending DLC comes out.

I can understand. Mass Effect is very immervise universe and Shepard is a part of us. The Shep's motivation is buildt in 3 games and concerns his fight as well as his feelings, depending how you play and your immersion level. Mass Effect is more than games !

Quick question. A long time ago I read that scientists speculated that if there really are sentinent beings out there they would have to have at the very least opposable digits on their hands so they could create tools leading all the way up to space technology. Now the Hanar, jellyfish-like creatures? How in the world did they become spacefaring? Or some of the other races? Sorry, it's just my logical mind working.
