That thing is not a Fallout game,  it was intended from the begining to be Oblivion with Guns,  they never intended to do anything but make Oblivion with Fallout graphics.

Every Fallout discussion here devolves to vets trying to convince new fans that 3 was unenjoyable trash, it seems.

I think the Fallout franchise should reboot or should have been rebooted in place of 3, honestly. The setting and writing were no strangers to inconsistencies even before Fallout 3, yes even from 1 to 2 . Some of the original writers can't even agree how Ghouls came to be in the lore, for example. Tactics is also only considered "semi-canon"... really? Brotherhood of Steel is outright non-canon even with no contradictions and is only considered "flavor" material. Again, how does this stand in any respectable series even if the installment was ill-recieved?

Starting again with a clean slate appears ideal here, from my perspective. Especially now that it seems Fallout will be getting a stable dev team for once.

Yeah, I actually agree with you, Blacklash93. Instead of calling it Fallout: 3, they should've started with a clean slate and called it what it actually is The Elder Scrolls: Apocalypse.

That's every Fallout discussion I've seen since 3 came out, anywhere.

Which is weird, because I enjoyed it, and lots of people I've run into have enjoyed it. I think folks got sold on the first two back when they were young and impressionable, and find changes to it offensive in the same way that old people dislike new trends in popular music. (Even though the music they listened to when they were young was equally insipid.)

Link doesn't work.

Is it for that Neverwinter MMO?

I don't think any Fallout fan can rationally consider Fallout 3 a disappointment.

A lot of Fallout 1/2 fans don't like FO3 just head over to No Mutants Allowed.

This is the Fallout 3 I wanted.

AH No Mutants Allowed... Those people are so anal about it... I love Fallout 3 even more for pissing those them off.

Pretty much my feelings towards Fallout 3, not a bad game on it's own, but next to Fallout(2)...complete failure.

Wait... this thing says absolutely nothing good tears it down to the nth degree and act like their opinion is fact.
You agree with it but still think its a good game?  How is that possible?

"not a bad game" means meh
look at the other part though, compared to fallout(2).

"complete failure" says it all.

I can't enjoy Fallout 1 and 2.
Tell me where's this failure? Is it in the boring gameplay?
The one that made me quite 5 minutes in?
If it weren't for 3 I'd never have even given it that 5 minutes.

Do you play many party-based RPGs? If so, which was your favorite?

If it weren't for Fallout and Fallout 2, I would have never tried Fallout 3.

Fallout 3 is just a TES game in a different setting. Awful generic and not too special on it's own(but playable), but compared to Fallout and Fallout 2, it is crap.

Fallout 3's an okay post apocalyptic Action RPG in the vein of the Elder Scrolls games, certainly better than Oblivion but I guess after all these years, the hardcore Fallout community would be incredibly hostile at anything that goes against the grain of what they felt Fallout should be about. It's not a very good Fallout game, if that makes sense.

See: X-COM reboot.

Set 200 years in the future, with a society less developed, FEV and Mutants that didn't make much sense. A highly organised Enclave with a satellite who were supposed to be blown up after F2, the irradiated water plot despite people surviving for those 200 years without clean water (also what about your butler robot that makes pure water, also also, earth filtration), etc etc.

(I'm just scratching the surface too, the pic buss posted is nitpicky and seething with butthurt, but there are a lot of good points there.)

To my mind, shouldn't have called it Fallout 3 and labelled it a sequel. Call it Fallout: Capital Wasteland and you defuse a lot of the criticism as you don't call a direct lineage between F1/2 and F3. Still would have provoked a hostile reaction, but maybe would've lessened it. Worked for New Vegas, No Mutants Allowed seem to like that game just fine.

Saying everything coming out is terrible because its not turn-based... while I HATE turned based.
The only turned- based games that I can enjoy have been all strategy games... and even those are few and far between.

Well I'm tired of people looking down on me like I'm some sort of freak for not worshipping turn-based.  Apperantly I'm a retard with terrible tastes in games and only play CoD.
Funny seeing as I never even played CoD.

What about the 'gameplay' is boring? Regardless, I don't think 5 minutes is adequate time to judge all the features of a RPG. I'm not even sure if that's enough to see more than the intro cinematics to Fallout.

LIke I said its the turn-based. Everyone goes on and on about the tactical gameplay when most turned based games seem to require no thought whatsoever. I turn my brain off and press attack and win and *yawn. I kill this rat on the way to the first town didn't have a clue what I was doing or why I was there and I was done. Killing the rat just told me nothing more exciting than killing that rat is going to happen so there was really no point in continuing. Some of these old games are not so great and I think some people just have these rose tinted glasses that make crap look good. A lot of the games I grew up playing were crap but I didn't think they were at the time.
For me Fallout starts with 3 and New Vegas. I'm looking forward not backwards.

While Fallout isn't a very strategical or tactical game, I think you're making a bit of an overestimation as to just how easy and simple the combat is.

I kill this rat on the way to the first town didn't have a clue what I was doing or why I was there and I was done. Killing the rat just told me nothing more exciting than killing that rat is going to happen so there was really no point in continuing.

The very first thing you learn is that your vault has no water purifier, and that you need to find a replacement water chip for it. And those kinds of weak combatant encounters are in most good RPGs, where the need to learn the mechanics of the game and UI are more important than a complex combat encounter at the very start of the game. Think Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment, Neverwinter Nights, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire, or even Mass Effect. They all have these types of encounters.

Ofcourse you don't. Skipping every cutscene prior isn't wise if you had not skipped you would see the conversation with the oversser and your the whole point to being outside the vault.

NICE.
