Anywho, I'm signing up on GOG or Steam sometime this week to start playing Fallout 1. Is there any preference between the two?

For me theres a rule: an rpg has to deliver 40hrs gameplay...peroid. Everything below gets one point of love killed, no matter how good the story ...graphics ect is.
The sheer amount of story you can put in "free Space" is endless and so its the variations.
Allan Dean Foster hire him for example... that would be a double winner ...imagine :
Bioware presents .....
a story by Alan Dean Foster...

tataaaaa
a classic is born

Assuming I skip cutscenes when I didn't.
NICE.
Then you have no reason to not know the purpose of of leaving the vault.
@bussinrounds I didn't know that the animator was not only Todd's friend but failed his class three times.

The problem is that those games do not exist. All of the non Medieval themed RPGs have been listed in this thread. Barely a dozen. So lets worry about them existing before we start questioning their quality.

Definitely get the Gog versions since they should work fine and not any tweaks to fix the color glitch the Steam version comes with.
Fallout 1 mods
Get the resolution patch and TeamX patch 1.3.4
Fallout 2 mods
Download Restoration Project, Resolution patch and Kilaps Unofficial Fallout 2 patch

GOG is a lot more convenient if you don't use Steam. You don't have to install third-party software to play or download/activate the game, and if what Skelter says is true, it's easier to get running. Shouldn't make a difference for modding though, which you'll probably want to do anyways.
Fyi i have the Steam version since I boguht the Fallout collection for only $5 so I couldn't resist. It's doesn't take much to fix the graphic bugs in the Steam version.

Dont be so ignorant (and please not so arrogant bout what im questioning or not ...in fact i just stated my opinion) and neglect something that already is in existence... quite a bunch of damn good futuristic RPGs.
And i see more of them to come in the future , cuz ppl are getting slowly tired of the tolkien style RPG.
Theres so much more plot, story ,design to achive in an story envirement that isnt so much restricted by time, tech, evolution, morals , ( hidden) religion ect.Its Disneyland and challenge to every storywriter ...artistic freedom to graphic designers.
So ...we have some good ones now , and sure some bad too
but i see a bright future for the NON TOLKIEN RPG style
Peace

Most of the criticims is WAY overblown - as it usually is on the internets when something in overhyped. Look at DNF for example (a perfectly solid game tha got bombed by butthurt tards).
People were expecting a F2 copy with shiner graphics. And it was cleard from day 1 it was gonna be different. Plenty of time to adjust ones expectations. Yet many people didn't.
FO3 isn't a bad game by any stretch of the definition.

Here's a pretty good F3 review over at NMA www.nma-fallout.com/article.php
:)Just stumbled upon this
The butthurt is just radiating off my monitor right now. NMA and its ilk can become an incredibly hostile and dogmatic community with this as a perfect illustration. The fact some people feel the need to call out one individual as a hack shows the maturity when we're dealing with these types.
It's futile and outright stupid to try to convince people who enjoyed FO3 to look back and say it was a bad game. No one is claiming it's perfect, just that it was enjoyable and for many people very much so.
