Do you mean, why do you use Male Shep? or his default face?

If it's his default face.. apart from the creepy smiles, which all faces would get so that kinda doesn't matter. I think it suits him, a very military look.

I like the way he looks and I am terrible at making custom faces, so I stick with default mainly. Though I haven't done a playthrough on 3 with default Shep yet.

I'd say the suit and lack of visible tats have as much a role in making him less punk as his hair.

Uh, yeah. I totally disagree with the OP on Vanderloos looks. He looks as smart as anybody else. In fact, he looks remarkably like my best friend, who is an architect and a really smart person. I like Sheploos looks and it's the one I identify with Shepard.

He looks good in both, but yes better in the suit.  I'm not big on his tats, they do nothing for him.  Both hair styles are fine to me

Also, just wanted to add that I have yet to see a costum male face which doesn't look plastic-y to me. Standard Shep's textures look much better, IMHO.

I've tried really hard several times to make a decent bro shep and always failed so when I play bro he's always ended up as a sheploo. I like him a lot actually and can accept him fully as Commander Shepard even though I have seen many pics of really cool bro sheps that sadly I just cannot replicate. Now when I play femshep she's always custom with a face code that I have evolved to and really like.

The biggest hurdle I face with a custom Shep face is the cheek bones and cheek "fat". I don't know why they designed the creator without a 360 degree rotation, it's just the dumbest thing I've ever seen. And the lack of that feature prevents the user from seeing what they are doing.

Also, some of the sliders aren't Zero to Max sliders, they're Zero to Max to Zero sliders. The creator really needed some tweaking but I guess with the import system, they couldn't do much there.

Well Sheploo's face is just ONE whole texture. So you can get the best quality. I think once you start asking the system to morph the 3D model, it can't use a hi-res texture because the features won't match. Sheploo's texture will only fit to Sheploo's mesh, so to speak.

That's my only gripe with Shepard actually. I don't like either Mark Meer or FemShep's voice performance and it takes me a few hours to get used to hearing Meer's voice come from my Shepards, the ethnicity and dialect doesn't really match.
