What bonus power is best for engineer? Sorry if this drags the topic off track, I'm thinking of rolling an engineer aswell.

Lucky guy. I unlocked this weapon online. It's amazing. Don't have it for single player.

I used biotic stasis (snarl at me for using this instead of cryo blast and for breaking the rules)
Very useful

I also like to roll with the Prothean Particle Beam as the sole weapon.

Defense Matrix hands down. You already have overload so you don't need energy drain. Just putting it out there that the defense drone is pretty much garbage as well. Not sure about how effective decoy is in SP.

Oh and don't bother with -recharge cooldown armor, get max power for armor. For weapons use whatever you want BUT you want +200% recharge speed.

I disagree on your point against ED. If anything, ED makes overload obsolete. It drains barrier and Shield as well as give you protection bonus. It also makes you nearly invincible against Geth. It's impact radius upgrade is almost as good as chain overload.

ED is great for CQC engineers. Plus, don't forget that energy drain and overload can combo in together so there's no reason why you can't have both :)

Engineers can tackle every form of defense with their powers, but they lack any form of Ammo Power. That isn't a problem if you focus on powers, but if you like to deal damage mainly through weapons then both AP Ammo or Warp Ammo are good choices. Warp Ammo deals more damage, but Armor is more common than Barriers on enemies (at least I think it is) and AP Ammo saves you a weapon slot otherwise spend on a piercing mod.

If you like to use your powers, then Defense Matrix forms an excellent support power. The 60/30 percent cooldown penalty is, with the right equipment, a small price to pay for +25 percent damage on your tech powers. Energy Drain is great, too, saving you the talent points otherwise needed for Overload, enabling you to invest them in other powers, and giving you a power that damages an enemy directly while also immediately giving you more survivability.

As for weapon loadout, well, it mainly depends on your play style. My Engineer used her drones to flush the enemy out of cover so she could easily pick them off with a sniper rifle. A relatively light rifle like the Valiant or Raptor combined with a light Assault Rifle (such as the Avenger or the Geth Pulse Rifle) gives you great coverage while still keeping the cooldowns at a minimum. If you have Defense Matrix as your bonus power, the Assault Rifle can be traded in for a lightweight SMG to compensate for the cooldown penalty.

Especially since Garrus and EDI both have Overload. You can always switch back to Overload once you get Tali in your squad (if she is alive).

If you want to field a little army, you can choose decoy as a bonus power, maximise the turret and drone powers first, take EDI with you for her decoy, and Tali as soon as you get her for her two drones. That way, you will have an army of 9 at all times. Add sabotage in the mix, and you will breeze through the Geth missions without firing a shot.

Defense Matrix, lightweight SMG like the Shuriken, and a shotgun like the Wraith.

No Engineer is complete without a shotgun!
