I was in the shower when a thought struck me.  Lately there has been talk on here about how gender influences Thedas, such as Arl Eamonn's supposed sexism right?  Well, as we know, Broodmothers are the females of other races taken and changed right?  Also, Andraste was the bride of the maker, supposedly, and all the priests are female, right?  Anyone else seeing a connection here?  Bride of the maker = broodmother?  Now, I'm not saying Andraste was the first Darkspawn, as I understand the first Blight had already occured by then, but I wonder if there is some sort of symbology here if not outright connection.  Also, 'proper' Dragons are all female, with the males being drakes, another connection?  After all, there is that cult based around Andraste the Dragon right?

I'm thinking of several possibilities:

A dark reflection, sort of like the traditional warping of the good guys' religion by the bad guys common in a lot of fantasy.
The maker did indeed make the darkspawn, or that he himself is a darkspawn.  Maybe he even got annoyed that Andraste didn't just come down into the deep roads like she was meant to so he could turn her into a broodmother, instead she misinterpreted his messages as "Spread the faith".
I'm seeing things.
Some sort of Dragon connection, with everything going back to the Dragons.
It's an allegory as to how all of life's problems are caused by women.  Just like in real life.
