My wife would like this game for Christmass however I am not sure if I should get her the Xbox or the PC version. We do have the basic to run the game on are PC but thats it and I was wondering if it would be worth getting the PC version sence she has no interest in the builder and are PC is well crap lol. I also have consern that if we did get the Xbox version we would not get as many updates and patches/fixes to the game not to mention oprional downloads, AKA pay for more extra content that is all ready avalable to the PC.

Any advice would be helpfull

If the PC can run it, go for that. There's more tactical options and you can use mods even if you're not interested in using the toolset yourself. This doesn't require the latest sooper-dooper hardware to run fine, but if your PC only just meets the minimum specs then it may be better to go 360. There are folk around running it on older hardware, maybe they'll pop up and give their views. It might help if you tell us the CPU, Ram size and graphics card of the PC.

If your PC can run it then there's no reason to get it on a console. The console versions are good alternatives if your PC is crappy like mine.

I prefer the PC because of the options available. Such as the graphic, and sound settings. Not to mention the option of installing mods. But if I had one of those massive HD tvs, I might play on a console.

Buy her the PC version as DA:O was made for PC and youll also get access to tons of mods over time that really will make the game lasting a long time. Much more value for the money than buying for 360/P3.

The specs say:

CPU: Intel Core 2(or equivalent) running at 1.4Ghz or greater

AMD X2(or equivalent) running at 1.8Ghz or greater

If you've got the time, compare your processor specs to some bottom of the line dual cores. See if your processor falls into the "(or equivalent)" category.

PC by all means if you can run it pretty well, this game was meant for the PC like Call of Duty: MW2 is meant for the Xbox360

PC. You get proper controls and mods. Even if you're not interested in playing the game repeatedly, there are already a couple of mods that would make the first playthrough more enjoyable.

By the way, the game runs perfectly fine with a single core CPU for me. Your graphics card might be limiting you, but I think it should be fine. Even so, christmas would be the perfect time to upgrade your PC a bit if necessary, no?

No way PC compares to HDTV (unless your PC can run it beautifully on a HDTV). I'll take my giant plasma screen, surround sound and comfy recliner any day.

I would buy the xbox version again. Its an easy gameplay without leaving the tactics/strategys behind. Insert DVD, press Start, have fun.

If you are familiar with pc-setups and with the time figuring possible problems out you may choose the pc version. Mods are already out, but personally I wouldnt trust source you dont know personally.

Well, buy both. Thats the best you can do :)

I have played both and I would have to go with the PC version. This would be the best choice when new DLC mods are available....plus you have the tool set.

The only excuse to buy this on console is not having a PC that can run it. Toolset, mods, faster patching, better controls, non-gimped difficulty... the list goes on. And you can hook a computer up to an HDTV and with a wireless mouse and keyboard, allowing one to still recline in style.

I watched some gameplay footage on the 360 (ok, it was Chobot doing strategy, but same thing) and the radial menus were driving me crazy just watching them.

Honestly, I love ME, but if there are two things I hated about it - it was driving the Mako up steep mountains AND the radial menus.

Bleck to radial menus. Didn't like them in NWN, nor any console game.

On the PC you get no radials. That would be one of many reasons (along with mods, patches, better graphics, etc.) that makes me suggest the PC over the console.

If your PC is glitchy or just meets the minimum requirements, or you LIKE radial menus, then maybe go 360.

No way PC compares to HDTV (unless your PC can run it beautifully on a
HDTV). I'll take my giant plasma screen, surround sound and comfy
recliner any day.

I see this from people all the time - you do realize all but the cheapest computer monitors have at least equal resolution to the most high-end HDTVs, right?
HDTV resolutions are at 720 or 1080.
1024x768 (that would be 768 vs. 720) was the most common monitor resolution - in 2002.  The current most used resolution is 1280 x 1024 - this is pretty much standard on most computer packages bought in the last 5 years or so.
Best Buy's current cheapest monitor, $99, has 1366 x 768.  You go a few bucks higher, still in the low-cost end, and you are already hitting the 1920 x 1080 quality.
There are many video resolution options higher than this for monitors.  Typical "gamers" will have monitors with 1900 x 1200 resolution.  On some newer 30" monitors you can get 2560×1600!

Just a quick search found a 2560 x 1600 monitor for under $3000.

The only thing HDTVs have on computer monitors pricewise is SIZE - but if that is what you want, gasp, most HDTVs have computer hook-ups.  So attach your laptop (or desktop) to your 65" screen, use your wireless keyboard and mouse to sit back in your couch or comfy chair, and go to town.

I know, shock of shocks, computers really aren't permanently attached to desks with uncomfortable straight-back chairs!

The only place i've really enjoyed a radial menu is in the Battlefield FPS series, it's a lovely way to change weapons fast on the run. Doesn't work in DA:O at all, in my opinion, mainly becaus it's several sections deep, a radial menu is at its best when it's an instinctive one-touch reflexive GUI, there are other far better methods to implement complex selection systems in a game with an in-action pause function where instant precision is not required.

If your PC can run it then go PC, more patches for PC not to mention Mods.

Sadly I haven't upgraded my PC in awhile so I got it for X-box and am really missing out with being unable to mod it.

Graphics are better for PC too, plus once you finally do get a new PC with better hardware then you can replay the game again at higher graphics settings and install all kinds of fun mods. The replay-ability factor will increase tenfold if you get it for PC instead of X-box. The radical menu works "okay" but I'd totally prefer more slots for spells and abilities then what's offered on the x-box. But if you "know" your PC can't run it well at all (laggy, choppy, slow in general) then your wife should be fine with the x-box version, specially if she doesn't intend to mod it at all. (But you'll be missing out on a lot with no mods)

If you do go with X-box though, soon as you get it, hook it up to your internet connection and download the Stone Prisoner and Dragon armor set since they're both free with the game. Adds more content and a better tank then Allistair. Only the helm and chestpiece are any good as far as the armor goes and there's no item-set bonus for getting the full set so just buy the Helm from the armor vendor in your party camp and ignore the boots and gloves.

4 ghz?!

Hell I run it at 2.0 ghz at single core - don't worry about it.

Which platform is she used to? Buy her that version.

Also, tell her to start off as a city elf lady. She'll be glued to the game for a week!

I am not sure why some are saying that this game was "meant" for the PC. Was it not released on the PS3 and 360 as well?

To me, that reads "This game was meant for the PC, Xbox 360 and the PS3".

Please allow this "my car is better than your car" sentiment to fade away as the game is fine on all platforms. Bioware is that much better in its ability to create an equal experience for everyone, no matter what piece of garbage they use to play it.

It was originally made for the PC only, then transfered over to the console.

Reason people say PC is better is due to the graphics and the mods that are/will be available for this game on the PC.

But, thegreateski, I've seen both versions and the Graphics are slightly better. Honestly, there really isn't a noticeable difference, at least to the human eye. You all are human, right?

It was a PC CRPG from the get go.  Before KotOR, Bioware was a computer game company.  Then a deal with Microsoft saw KotOR, what had been meant to be a PC game as well, become an XBOX only game.  PC version came late.  Then Jade Empire and Mass Effect were "XBOX only" - until later PC ports were revealed after XBOX initial sales were done.

Dragon Age, though, has been a concept for years, and in development for at least 5 years, as a PC game.  About a year ago, when the game was meant to be released, they decided (for whatever reason) to port it to consoles as well.  The game release was delayed while we waited for the ports to be completed.

That's why people say it was meant to be a PC game - for most of it's development existence it was a PC game only, and Bioware started as a PC game company did a few "exclusives" for the XBOX (all of which eventually ported to the PC - I cannot tell you how upset I am to this day that they swore there were no plans for a Mass Effect PC version, so I dropped money on a 360, and 6 months later there was a (better?) PC version!) while holding out for the CRPG BG2 fans the development of Dragon Age like a peace offering to "make up" for all the console only stuff we had to sit through.

Ok, there's some opinion and speculation above, but I think you get the gist.
