I have both. before my PC conveniently died about 2 weeks ago, i was playing on a 4-yr old machine with a single core AMD 3500 processor, geforce 7800 gtx, 2G of ram, and a hard drive that could fit ONE game on it along with all my documents. Yes, i had to shovel coal into it to get it to run, but run it did, and the game played fine. load times were longer than my new amazing PC, and sometimes the sound hitched up a bit, but it ran fine.

I bought the 360 version because i thought there would be no way my dinosaur would run DA...but i was happily wrong. I like the PC version mainly because of the controls and camera, but the xbox version was fine to play as well.

the greatski, your comment induced me to lol. And I mean this in an endearing, not vindictive, way.

I play Dragon Age: Origins on Xbox 360 and, trust me, it's the same game the PC'ers are playing, just without the Mods and Isometric View.

It's not the same, but it's pretty close.  Many encounters are a bit different and the combat definitely "feels" different.  IMO the UI on the PC version is 100% better than the console versions.  With some tweaks I have to say that I've gotten the PC version to look much, much better on my PC than it does on the 360.

That said, I've played it on my 360 and if the PC version is out the 360 version is a perfectly acceptable alternative.

Storywise and class-wise and such, yes, it is more or less exactly the same.

Gameplay-wise, though ...

The radial menues and the lack of the over-head, pulled back tactical view combined are more than enough for me to declare the two "different."

If you can connect a 360 controller to your PC and play it like it is on consoles as well (I don't know though) then definitely get it on the PC (if you can run it).

A controller would not be able to handle the vastly different user interface.

Why would you trade the mouse-based interface for a clunky controller-based interface?  Controllers are better for certain types of games (driving games, platformers, etc.), but the mouse is a much, much more efficient device for controlling a game like DA:O.  In fact, I'd reverse that and say that it'd be nice to be able to use a mouse to play DA:O on a console.

PC--- Mods make it worth it. It's all sorts of content... for free!

Plus the PC has a overall better control scheme and more powerful capabilities built right into the game.

Now if she doesn't plan on using a mod ever, then go 360 cuz it will look nicer and run smoother.

Meant for pc. Does no one understand evolution. Might as well say we should all get in the sea and breath underwater.

If you like sitting back and relaxing get it for a console. Sitting back with a wireless mouse and keyboard just doesn't happen. They don't have the wrap your hands around and automatically find all the buttons without looking ability either.

If the graphics are actually decent on the PC then get it on the PC. The graphics in this game are awful. The game itself is incredible, but it is definitely an eye sore. I do not see how people can honestly say this game looks good.. it really doesn't.

Aside from that though it's a very fun game to play. I prefer console gaming myself, always have. I find it more relaxing.

No way PC compares to HDTV (unless your PC can run it beautifully on a HDTV). I'll take my giant plasma screen, surround sound and comfy recliner any day.

Your joking right an HDTV only goes up to 1920*1080p with no antialising, I play on an 30" HD dell Monitor with 7.1 surround sound  at the resolution of 2560*1600 with full antaliasing and all other settings and it pisses over any HDTV I should Know I have the latest Sony Bravea and it doesent even come close in terms of sheer Quality.

Obviously AsinineGryphon doesn't understand what an HDTV is: a large, medium-resolution monitor.  I do have a PC connected to my HDTV, and it looks nice.  My monitor, though smaller, does look better.  I have one of the two best LCD TVs that you could buy last year as well, so it's not that the TV isn't good.

PC monitors have been doing "full HD" for many years before TVs ever did.

It seems like Bioware disabled texture filtering and used some ugly textures on the environments.  I'm running the PC version at 1920x1200 with the settings maxed, with 4Aces hi-res texture mod and 8xAA and 16xAF forced in my video driver.  The game looks 1000% better than it did at stock settings.

1. It doesn't necessarily cost much to upgrade a PC.
2. Because that's what Christmas is all about.  It's about getting drunk to deal with having to spend time with your family and participating in a no-holds-barred orgy of consumerism.  I'm lubing up my credit cards as I type this.

I play it on the 360, but I do know that Game Informer Magazine, gave the Pc version alot better score. If I could, I would just hook the pc to the plasma, sync up the 360 with the pc and play on the pc. But I never game on the pc. For some reason on the 360 you can't (least I cant figure out how) zoom the camera out, it's sticked to the character, thought it was like this on the game itself, till I seen it on Xplay and it was zoomed out like diablo...Stupid console =(

No more replies by OP? Bought the game already? Anyway, I'd vote for the PC, because you get to use more tactical commands during a fight, you can zoom out to an isometric view from above, which sometimes helps with placing certain spells with big areas of effect precisely, easier to control with mouse/keyboard, community created mods and content on top of all that.

You may want to consider sometime soon to upgrade your PC, even if it works ok. This game scales well with multi-core CPUs. A fast Core 2 Duo like my P8600 would already help quite a bit compared to a 4.0 single core... and such an upgrade should not be too expensive.

Everyone, please, for the love of God! You do not need to zoom out to an isometric view to play this tactically on the console. For Christmas sake, Bioware was kind enough to compensate for that by allowing you to not only have a HUD but the abiltity to see the creatures and artifacts transparently through structures such as walls, hills, rocks, dead bodies, fire, smoke and Morrigan's rear end. Personally, I enjoy tactical combat and strategy and I see no lack of it on the 360. It is this elitist stance that prevents people from purchasing this terrific title on the consoles and, as a result, Bioware loses out on sales and the potential for a glorious franchise! By the way, if you're talking evolution, I don't need to upgrade my console every year to play the latest and greatest games.....

Eh, it's not an elitist stance.  The game is much better on the PC, although it's still great on consoles as well.  I've played the game extensively on both (although mostly on the PC since the 360 version I've played belongs to a friend...I do own a 360, though).  I don't hear anyone suggesting that someone not buy the game at all if their PC won't run it well.  I'm not sure where you're getting that from.

...and neither does any PC user.  This is a myth.  I have a computer that I built when Oblivion was released, and it ran games slightly better than a 360 did then.  Now that PC is nearly 5 years old and guess what...it still does.  This is a myth that was spawned by a double-standard and is proliferated by the anti-PC crowd.

I am not trying to be anti-pc. Just gets a little frustrating when you're told again and again that the game you love to play is inferior (in ways mentioned repeatedly) because you're not playing on a PC. And yes, I do want to hear of more people playing this on the 360.

If the polar ice caps melt that would come in handy wouldn't it?

Face it, PCs are dinosaurs, their wildy varying specs and nuances make quality assurance a nightmare that saps development time and funds.  Consoles are better in every way development-wise, with the lone exception of lacking the sheer power of the more expensive PC hardware.

Evolution would be saying goodbye to the variable hardware PC for gaming purposes.

This right here is going to be your real problem.  I owned one of those maybe... three years back.  It is not going to be able to handle the game at anywhere near the level of detail or framerates you'll get out of an Xbox.   Whats the type/resolution on your monitor?  I wouldn't think an old 6800 would be able to push anything higher 1024x768, even with the settings dialed to 'fugly'.

That said, the PC version plays much better.

I'd recommend getting a new graphics card, that graphics card was out of date three years ago.

You can get cheap ones for 100 dollars like the nvidea 9800 gt
