It not an issue about the event itself, but if you caught two Grey Wardens (or they surrendered),  would you really put them in the same cell? There is an empty one right next door.

Just saying...

;)
ok so maybe it's easier said then done.

Huh? I thought there was already someone in that cell. Or was that cell only occupied when the game needed a mechanic for a believable dialogue in which the player decides (through the Warden's prediction) what happens next? (I don't pay enough attention when I do get captured with Alistair to notice.)

It is occupied if you are alone.

I won't pretend I have done a tone of research on the subject of gaols, but I am fairly certain that medieval gaols worked according to different principles than modern day prisons.

Prisoners in medieval gaols might be let out to beg for money and/or food, so long as they shared their take with the gaolers. Imprisonment itself often was sometimes more about preventing feuds from starting, as opposed to punishing a person.

Anyway, gaols and their practices could have been quite different in Ferelden from what we are used to in the real world.

To a large extent you are right, however I don't believe Loghain would be willing to take that risk with the Warden. Also, the motivation was less feuds and more wanting to hold the prisoner for ransom. They didn't bother preventing escapes except by requiring word of honor, because the prisoners word was as effective as locking them in a tower with armed guards. Nor did they force them to beg for food: you want them to feed you if they end up holding you for ransom, so you feed them now.

And it seems like the prisons in Thedas really might be for punishment or holding purposes. I haven't played Awakenings, but from what I understand, it indicates that the prisoners in Amaranthine are in there because they did wrong by the rulers.

Anyway, I don't really see much of an issue with the two of them being held together in the same cell. Maybe the OP can elaborate a bit on what problem that would be...?

I think what surprises me most about the quest ("Captured") is that Loghain did not put them in one of the dungeons of his own properties. Fort Drakon seems to be a military prison where enemies of the state are held. So if Loghain is trying to eliminate people who could identify him as a traitor, he seems to be making the situation worse by using gaolers and torturers of the state prison -- who could spread word around Denerim about what they were finding out as they did their foul work.

It seems likely Loghain would probably have his own people he could trust to keep their mouths shut. So why take the prisoners to Fort Drakon at all? From Loghain's perspertive, it would have been better to take them to some dark dungeon where they could be interrogated and disposed of...very quietly and discreetly.

Zevran would have asked Ser Cauthrien to join.

I think the question is "Why are you needlessly risking Alistair by taking him on this mission?". Come on, you have a good selection of teammates -why risk your only candidate for king (and both grey wardens) to rescue Loghain's daughter?

Probably that the two can help each other escape. My first playthrough, Alistair helped my character BS the guard into thinking I was sick. (Or he tried. Alistair's acting sucked. That guard must have been crazy.)

Well, they were stripped to their smallclothes, so presumably any guard with a weapon should have been able to deal with the two of them.

This is what I thought, too. There is no way Eamon would have gone for this.

Not all of us are interested in making Alistair king. >> (I know one of my Wardens deliberately took him along hoping it would create bad PR and lower his desirability in the eyes of the Landsmeet.)

Anyway, I guess one can see it as hoping that by having the future king rescue the queen from the traitor's castle, it would make him seem more heroic, selfless, have the country's best interest at heart, and other goodly qualities that would warm him over to those you're trying to convince to make him king.
