Trailers? Last time I checked trailers were made to advertise a product, to leave a trail of a product; not to tell how you should feel about someone you see in it. If you don't agree I'll have a question; did you romance Ashley in ME1, Miranda in ME2 and then back to Ashley in ME3 just because thay's the way their trailers bombed us and as a proof "emotional engagement and mature storytelling"?

That's exaclty what I'm getting at. That kid died not because you failed to save him: You couldn't save him because he intentionally dissapeared before your eyes. His death could not be a personal issue on Shep's part. The billions of people Reapers kill everyday aren't the ones Shep personally cares for, plus Shep always knew h/s could never save everyone when fighting Reapers. The feeling should be impersonal and neural towards the kid.

Yeah that was me. I loathe the way the plot wants to hammer in emotions rather than let them come naturally in the narrative, and the kid is a prime example.

I'm sorry. I don't know this kid, and I don't care about him. Not over the billions of others who are dying,
He made no impression on me so why should he make one on my Shepard?

They might as well have stuck a sign on his forehead saying "I'm a badass!" with how artificial Kai Leng felt.
I mean come on, Nihlus to this day remains a beloved badass in the eyes of fans, and this is a guy who was on screen for all of 5 minutes and ended up getting shot in the back of the head due to his own stupidity. But, unlike Kai Leng, he had genuine presence.

Also, props to whoever said Anderson. I always found him nice enough, but boring. This man did not deserve to appear in Shepard's final flashback, especially when he apparently is now supposed to be more important than the LI.

I hate them type of children.
The very sight of this kid pissed me off, which was only made worse by the annoying dreams.
Them dreams were just gay, running around slowly after a little kid that I never cared about and wished died somewhere not in view of the camera.
Then at the end he slaps me across the face again.

Nihlus is kind of the ME Boba Fett isn't he. To be honest though I partly put that down to him being the first turian - hell, alien - we ever see in the series.

Udina actually went out of his way in ME1 to screw you, I personally never recommended him.  Even before ME3 where he is proven to be an idiot.

well back in the day, reports stated that bioware was showing this scene again and again to the media on open events and on private meetings with the press, to hint that ME3 was stepping up the edginess of the game by showing explicitly a child's death. So yes, the child scene was the spearhead of their campaign for emotional impact. We were supposed to feel painstakingly bad, damn it.
