I am always hamstrung in Morrigan's quest when I remember that without Flemeth I would be dead.

At the same time there are a limited number of high dragons to kill

Morrigan tells me to kill her mother based on what she read in a book. Who knows what scheme she hatched

Flemeth planned to use me as a means for achieving her designs on the old god

How did you folks decide? The choice seems to have no impact on gameplay.

Does Flemeth carry a hoard of loot?

She doesn't have a hoard of loot, no. Just a few items (higher level robes for Morrigan, the grimoire, etc).

This is kind of an ambiguous decision to make. If you converse with her though it almost seems she was expecting you to show up and force a confrontation. Ultimately I think it really comes down to how willing you are to be either Morrigan or Flemeth's pawn since each have a proposition for you.

I didn't really like this quest much to be honest. Flemeth was way too damned cryptic so I ended up killing her out of annoyance.

If you have high enough cunning/persuasion you can convince Morrigan that you killed Flemeth when you really didn't...

Well, I suppose it depends on how much your character actually cares for Morrigan vs just using Morrigan. My characters are always on good terms and Morrigan has been helpful.

Besides, you give your word to kill Flemeth. Flemeth only wanted your word to kill the Blight. Conscience cleared for me.

I didn't even start that quest. I felt reluctant to steal from Irving, being a fellow mage and all.

Just remember you only have Morrigans word on that. Flemeth may well wanted to help you because she fears the Blight and knows only Grey Wardens can defeat an Archdemon.

But, even if you "kill" flemeth, she is not dead? Well, not definitively, at least. Morrigan acknowledges that Flemeth will be back as an inevitability at some point in the future, hence why she requires the grimoire, in order to learn to protect herself from Flemeth when she returns, so you are only stopping Flemeth for a time, "killing" does not really apply to defeating her as she will find a way to return. And it is not really that hard a decision compared to some of the others in the game, particuarly as you are defeating Flemeth in dragon form, not as an elderly woman.

You're killing Flemeth as much as you kill anything else in the game. Once the deed is done she's out for the rest of the game, so saying you "killed" her is acceptable. And the point about killing her because she's in dragon form doesn't address OP moral compunction against doing so in any way.

I always kill Flemeth, because even though I don't like Morrigan I feel like she deserves at least the chance to live. The whole invasion of the body snatchers thing is disturbing. And there's a strange integrity thing- I wouldn't like my character to tell that monumental of a lie which would result in the doom of another person.

I figured killing Flemeth would only be an inconvenience for the old bat. There was enough evidence at that point to suggest Morrigan's story was true, and the robes of possession in Flemeth's chest don't help her case any.

Though I've also had characters who feel Morrigan deserves a little pay back for being an unreasonable ****. Pettiness can be rewarding at times.

First playthrough I lied to Morrigan just cause I couldn't beat Flemeth. Second play through, on my character that actually romanced Morrigan, I killed Flemeth.

If you are a mage and you try and kill flemeth you get an option when talking to her that says you want to keep the grimoire for yourself, does this actually net you anything or do you just get a book you can do nothing with?

It doesn't do anything, and you can get that option with any class. You just wind up with the grimoire gift item in your inventory regardless.

Alright thanks I never got the option to keep it for myself on my rogue or warrior but its possible i just wasn't trying that hard to find it.

And also that your character does not know that much at that point.  It is only at the end, when Morrigan explains about the ritual that she says it is her and Flemeth's plan.  So when you are doing the quest, odds are you didn't know about it.  Can you even do it at that point?  And if you are killing her for that reason, you might as well kill Morrigan as well.

Me, I killed her because it was a tough fight, as well as the various bits of folklore about Flemeth.  But character-wise, it would have been more appropriate for my character to leave Flemeth be.

"I am always hamstrung in Morrigan's quest when I remember that without Flemeth I would be dead."

That debt is considered paid when you agree for Morrigan to join your party, as Flemeth herself says to you. I've let her live and killed her... it just feels hollow regardless which you do but I think the game expects you to have slain her given the description on the robes. How much does your character like Morrigan is the deciding factor I suppose.

The decision was easy for me. Morrigan said jump and I said "How High?". The battle itself, on the other hand, that's a completely different story, lol

If you are looking for a moral reason to kill Flemeth, its pretty easy. If you romance Morrigan, you will find that she falls in love with you, and truly cares. Morrigan is a product of her upbringing, mainly from Flemeth. You also learn that this plan to bring back the old god was made before Flemeth ever saved you. She saved you for her own reasons, not out of compassion, and not to end the blight. Ending the blight is just one of the consequences to killing the archdemon and releasing his soul for Morrigan to consume in the baby. Now, we no reason not to believe what Morrigan says about Flemeth's ability to extend her life. We know she has had other daughters in the past that have vanished.

She certaintly did not save your life because of your eyes. She saved  the 2   Warden  and it's just was pure coincidence that it's was you.

The blight must be stopped at all cost and even Flemeth seem to understand this.
Killing a witch that lived for century and killed thousand of ppl and her own flesh to live longer ..I Kill her each time..
Morrigan help you much than Flemeth during  yer adventure .. Which last around 2-3 years depending of your origins ..vs someone that killed her own daugher to be *reborn* over and over and has lived more than enough on her little jungle hut.

Just kill that old hag .. She don't bring anything to the world anyway.

Don,t you find it gross? That old hag hiding in her little Hut send you her only daugher so you can screw her and make a baby so she can posseses it later?

Morrigan take on her mother plan but the only difference's she won't be possesed. What's difficult to understand?
If you don,t kill Flemeth .. She will kill Morrigan and probably possesses her.

This was honestly more or less how I decided. It's like, "Listen, lady, I was willing to listen to your side of the story, but if you're gonna be an ****, fine. Let's dance."

It's a huge fire breathing dragon. How could I NOT want to fight it?

plus she's not really dead so I don't feel very guilty about it.

Yeah, that's what I ended up doing on my first play through. Flemeth gives you the option to not kill her yet give the book to Morrigan. I told Morrigan that I killed Flemeth, even though I didn't......now if DA2 has an option for a Morrigan/Flemeth showdown.........
