I'm fairly confident if a professional boxer tore me to pieces with his bare hands the law would go after him as if he'd been armed.

According to ze lawz, you have to tell the other person that you are trained in -insertthinghere- before you do harm, otherwise you could be in some trouble. It isn't a hollywood tale, either.

The same kind of twisted law logic goes with defense techniques. If you are being pulled away by an assailant, and you "pretend" to go along with it, and then catch him off guard and run, they could say that you were willing and therefore inflicted harm when not using self defence.
