I don't mind so much when the host leaves in the middle of the game. Yes it's annoying but I understand that it can't be helped sometimes, especially if the departure is outside of the host's control (i.e. internet connection goes down).
But why do other players hit exit when the "Restarting current wave" message appears? Why not NOT click exit and remain online to finish the mission? Do people assume the game is over when the host leaves so just simply hit exit??? Stay logged in dammit!

Because an annoying message pops up on the screen. Gotta make it go away.

More seriously I stay. For the credits.

One time on Wave 10, I was attempting a grab at the exact moment the Host left. Grab and exit are triggered by the same button.

If between wave 4 to 11, I'm likely not to leave. Getting dropped by server is a problem though =/

Not sure how it works - I assume the remaining three players' clients somehow negotiate who will be the leader and therefore if you come back alone it means that either the logic failed and more than one was made leader or else there's some problem with the link between you and the other players. Sadly, when this happens (thankfully very very rare for me), I wonder if the other game is still going and I've dropped out of it...

why even give people the option to exit during a migraiton?

I recall when I started playing, when host left the wave would restart and I'd play on. But for weeks now (maybe more than a month), every single time I get the "Host exited, restarting wave" message, I get dropped out of the match to the MP main menu. I'm curious whether something has changed in the mechanics of how the game handles host drops.

It's a bad GUI design. Windows has taught people that when a message pops up, you click the button to make it go away. In this case, however, the button doesn't exit the window, it exits you out of the game. It actually took me like 2 weeks before I realized that's what was going on.

If the message would just have an "OK" button that kept you in the game, people would stay. It's just automatic response on their part.

I always stay, but I do have an immediate monkey urge to press that button, and have done it once or twice when I did not intend to leave.  Even if it didn't really do anything but dismiss the prompt, I wish that  there was a stay option that was presented.  I honestly think that this is one of the reasons that people don't make it through the migration.

Yup, that explains it.

Thanks OP - I had no idea that you could just wait, and then the match would restart.

After reading this thread, I won't hit "exit" any more.  You've educated at least one person :)

The only two times I've stayed after a host migration during a match, we never really finished that wave anyways. Other than that, I exit to save face and move on to the next match because honestly I can't continue to play a multiplayer match with one or two other guys with the amount of server troubles recently. Would I love to hang around and try to finish a match with whoever else stayed? Yes, but I can't stay in a match where I can't do anything because of how bad these servers are.  I'm probably the only player who's actually proud of hitting that magical button in the message prompt.

I stay as I am there for the credits not the xp, it doesn't happen often however I can only recall one time the others did not stay, can't quite solo silver yet however I recall I made it from wave 8 to 10 and died on the objective.

Just a thing for the wish list, I wish we could invite a friend, a few times it has been a gold run, we all work hard (some harder than others) to make it to wave 10, someone leaves and my heart sinks as I am not near good enough to solo this level, I have pulled it off with three but even then it's a stressful time:)

I know on Xbox there is a way if you are host as a friend does it, we have two buddy's out of Europe that loose their connection often and he is able to invite them back in, not sure how as I didn't ask and I never host.

I've seen a lot of people get dropped from the MP server when it is trying to migrate, both in-game and at the lobby.

Geez so that's why I always get "dropped" from the game when I see that message. That's not just bad GUI design, it's absolutely terrible since it goes against how 99% of the people playing the game would react.

Thanks for the info and now at least I won't leave the game.

Because it looks like an error message. And as anyone who's ever worked IT should know, no one ever reads error messages before mashing the "okay" button.  .... Well that or you get them so terrified to click anything that they just sit there paralyzed

Bad UI design.

People... do... not... read.

Yeah, its bad UI design - if you push the button its what most people DON'T want to do. But when I finally read the text I said, "Why would anyone press it then?"

So I always sit there and see who else did not press the button. At least you will have full rockets and medigel, which comes in handy if the disconnect came late in the match.

I hate it when I stand alone after Host-Migration but I always stay for credits, even if it means just to be alone on wave 9 and die 7 seconds later.

Fixed that for you, and hopefully someone will notice xD
