Last month, we kicked off our monthly Dragon Age question with a discussion of lore and story details you are interested in learning more about. Thanks again to everyone who contributed in the weeklong conversation – the community team combed through the forum thread and discovered some interesting specifics. Almost a quarter of respondents mentioned they would love to know more about Tevinter, with an equal amount curious about the fate of Morrigan. The fourth most discussed character was Sten, and unsurprisingly many would love to know more about Qunari culture.

We’ll return to more questions about the Dragon Age Universe, story, and gameplay down the road. This month, however, we’re interested in something a little more tangible. Developers routinely offer a high-end physical collectible in special editions of their games. This can range from a statue you might display on your shelf, a cloth map, or art book to name a few.

If you wanted to own a piece of Dragon Age history in a collector’s edition of a future hypothetical title, what item (or kind of item) would you most treasure?

We recognize that not everyone has dragon-like inclinations to hoard pieces of treasure, so if you’re not interested in collector’s pieces, there’s always next month’s question! Let us know what high-end physical item you would most like in a collector’s edition here!

PS: As a reminder, this thread will remain open until next Monday at 9:00AM PST. Be sure to participate before the thread is locked!

I think drawings of the concept art for the characters would be something nice to have. To see how they started and how they evolved into the current character would be nice.

I love getting soundtracks for the game especially when it includes exclusive tracks that you will not be able to get anywhere else. Music has always played a huge role in a game for me.

Personally, I would like to see kind of a blood dragon statue with a malificar standing beneath it controlling it, or some in-game content that can only be received through collectors edition, or even a statue of either the new protagonist (if there is a new one), or the protagonists of each game

Figure of FemHawke or important NPC & cloth map and card game or chain like the one in Bioware Shop "City of Kirkwall Amulet"

Others (not my favorite): poster with NPC or Romance Scene, USB like Merrills Mirror

Easy, if I could have ANYTHING (within reason) from the Dragon Age universe it would be a replica of the Grey Warden pendants that they receive after the joining ritual.

I'd like to get the soundtrack, preferably on CD rather than a digital version. Otherwise concept art and maybe a statue of a high dragon or a new/existing protagonist.

To be honest, I am not into collectibles, so I prefer unique in game items for collector's editions. Give me a special weapon and armor that scales with the character, so it isn't overpowered early and useless later.

It would have to be a Grey Warden pendant and a statue of an important character.

any kind of necklace from the Dragon Age universe... like the grey warden pendant or the Hawke family estate symbol... something that I can wear to campus with pride. but yeah, Dragon Age cloth maps would be impressive - I would frame it and display it in my livingroom.

action figures would also be an awesome collector's edition bonus :)

Figure. Always a figure. I can't believe what ones were released for the first game and none have been released for the second. I keep throwing money at my computer, but an Alistair figure never comes out.

I think that a nice idea for the collector's item would be a replica of some item form the game. There were a lot of interesting items: The Urn of the Sacred Ashes, Meredith's Sword, Bianca - Varric's Crossbow, a tome with the sign of the Chantry, sword of the Gray Wardens, Hawke's staff.

It could also be a figure of the protagonist of the new game.

A nice surprise would also be a big artbook in contrast to the usually given ones, which are small. A phisical disk with a soundtrack would be something new because usually soundtrack are only in digital form.

Varric Chest Hair wig

seriously though I quite like the idea of a pendant or maybe some sort of themed book thing leatherbound and bronzed book clasps etc. Maybe with the seeker's symbol on or something

Edited:

Since somebody pointed out below that there was already a cloth map included in the Origins CE, I'm shamelessly changing.

*Any* game company can make a figurine or a pendant-thingy, but what I'd love is something that played to Bioware's strengths and showed off the IP and setting that you've created.

A reasonably hefty 'codex' doubling as an artbook, featuring not just duplicated game entries but also unique information on some The Next Thing-specific events, locations (a Thedas map!), characters, factions, the setting, lore, etc. I'd include series-wise subjects in this, like Origins or II's characters, but it'd arguably be hard given player choices.

Since you're mostly targeting existing customers with this sort of expensive CE (?), I'd love including short stories or other pieces in various genres by the writers (similar to the companion stories that were released for DAII around launch) that touched on some of the fan-favourite references, characters, and so on, or just included illuminating/witty/funny/engaging snapshots of parts of Thedas or interesting people. Perhaps some more history, more of Brother Genetivi's foreign misadventures, I don't know.

(The best example I can think of is similar to the Assassin's Creed encyclopedia, though I think that was a big bulky in terms of the actual size of the book/pages)

I'd like to have a statue of the Warden (in helmet) or possibility to play as him/her in next game. Or You could make every DLC free to owners of the CE.

I love statuettes or poseable action figures, like the Nathan Drake statue from the Uncharted 3 CE, or the alternate outfit Ezio Auditore statue from the EU Assassin's Creed Brotherhood CE. (I actually almost ordered that game from Europe specifically for the statue.) It has to be a main character, or a fan favorite, however -- I have absolutely no love for my Darth Malgus statuette or Shae Vizla, who didn't even appear in the game.

I also love real-life replicas of in-game items, like Nathan Drake's belt buckle and ring, or the replica Plasma Cutter from the Dead Space 2 CE.

My boyfriend orders CEs for Art Books and Soundtracks, but those seem to be available online *cough* for half the cost and effort. (And, in the case of art books, in much higher resolution.)

For the Dragon Age fandom, I'd love to see a Lyrium trinket (ring or keychain), in a CE. Or maybe something amazing like a national flag of Rivian or Tevinter that I could hang on my wall.

I do NOT like having to pay extra for a collector's edition for in-game items, such as alternate outfits or DLC.

EDIT:

I LOVE THIS IDEA.  I would pay for a CE simply to be guarenteed all additional DLC.

I don't like things that are too big, I don't have much shelf space and they just end up being stored in a cupboard or something never to be seen again.

I prefer real life versions of in-game items.

For example: The Fallout 3 Collectors Edition contained a small bobble head figure (which you collect in-game to raise stats). Fallout:NV's CE contained a replica platinum chip - an item important to the game's story.

Apologies for referring to Bethesda games in my answer but it was the easiest thing I could think of to use as an example. I like small things that actually feature in the game.

I also like soundtracks and art books.

Edit: In a future CE if you decide to include a figure of the main character or something like that, please make it gender neutral (helmeted, armoured - or with interchangeable parts like Revoltech figures).

A cloth map of Thedas would probably be my pick.

Map was added to the Collector's Edition Dragon Age: Origins.
