Drell Adept w/ Falcon + cryo ammo
Batarian Soldier w/ Graal
Asari Justicar (offensive) w/ Talon
Phoenix Vanguard w/ Hurricane
Human Soldier w/ claymore
Male Quarian Engineer w/ either harrier, falcon, or revenant (w/ either disruptor or incendiary ammo)
Any Krogan w/ a claymore
Human Adept w/ Talon
Turian Soldier w/ Hurricane
Either Vorcha w/ either Claymore, Wraith or Harrier
Destructive class, still sometimes fun, good for when low on medigel or in a bad lobby:
Claymore Infiltrator (any)
Geth Infiltrator w/ Scorpion & Hurricane

Although I do like to snipe and have other Infiltrators specc'ed for sniping and the sound of exploding heads always brings a smile to my face.
Actually I like a lot of classes, I like the Vorcha, Batarian and Krogan for heavy melee, hydraulic joints, strength enhancer. specc'ed for heavy melee, shotguns with melee attachment what's that equal out too percentage-wise for the power of the heavy melee? It equals broken skulls.

Female Quarian Engineer: 6/6/6/5/3 with a Carnifex and Stronghold Package
Okay, not exactly the most unusual build, but I keep coming back to her. Freezy'splode with a turret on top is just too much fun. I only wish she had more 'oomph' on gold.
For Effectiveness?
Female Quarian Infiltrator: 6/0/6/6/6 with a Valiant and Vulnerability AI
Still pretty fun, actually, I just feel she's more effective in gold. Sabotage is great, Tactical Cloak is awesome, and the Valiant is powerful. Good stuff, here.

I came from a support role in the military...I provided tactical meteorology for combat units. That made my role extremely important to them and in turn made me an an effective part of the team. It wasn't that I wasn't required to fight. I had to carry a rifle as well. But again, I stress, I was more effective giving the team the necessary data they needed tactically.
Cheers
That may have been a heavy support role with little to no fighting but I **** you not, you were like GOD to us pilots because the data you fed us determined if we flew or not.
...snip...
I have no problem playing support to others. I've been support and I've seen the power it wields. You can get the kill if you want and flex your muscles proclaming you are baddest thing since Muhammed Ali but I know who really made it possible for you to even live as long as you did. And you can't see them.
Haha, thanks for the encouragement.
Cheers
Support roles IRL are huge. All the same, thanks for not making a video game about meteorological combat support.

Props for using the Viper. It was my most-used sniper rifle up until I received the Valiant.
BioWare, is there any chance we can get an ultra-rare version of the Viper? I know the Valiant is pretty similar, but I Iove the look of the Viper. How about the Pit Viper, eh? ...Maybe?

I would say that the Black Widow kind of qualifies for this, even though it's really heavy.
Though I was using a Viper on an Asari Vanguard sniper the other day. It's not bad against Cerberus where you have plenty of heads to shoot.

And I would probably play that as long as I could email the results to my taste-buds. We need to get our scientists working on that, immediately. You know, along with that tube technology.
As for builds, I have three very effective ones that I enjoy thouroughly.
1. Geth Engineer. I spec for full healing drone, and widespread overload chaos. Used to use HM, but after the nerf it just wasn't worth taking 3 levels instead of the last level of fitness. Usually use talon 9 or valiant 1.
I most enjoy how good I've become at strategic redeployment of the drone. One move I've used a lot is to deploy it near fallen teammates before another member or I revives so that it will instantly restore their shields. Makes for a lot less yo-yo revive sessions.
The nerf for hunter mode gives me a frown, though. I could have easily lived with the damage reduction, but the shortening of the reveal range killed it for me. I loved how the engineer could control the flow of battle with that knowledge, and now it's gone. I don't miss the eye-strain, though. Seriously, that needed to be toned down by several orders of magnitude.
2. Kroguard. Specced for max barriers and reegar damage. I hit things with my face and melt anything that didn't have the good sense to die on the spot. Also I love having the Ghostbusters song playing on infinite mental loop. He's like an fire-breathing flea of death. Teams I play with enjoy his ability to draw agro and break up enemy formations.
3. Quarian Male Infiltrator. Master exploder who lives life in the tempo of explosivo. Boo and hiss, you say? Sorry, I can't hear you over all the explosions! Krysae and nades to the max. Always roll with grenade cap gear.
I limit how often I play him, because I'm well aware of how some people roll their eyes. But, holy hell is he fun. I love blowing stuff up!
I also enjoy rolling with other classes, but those three I my go-to characters. They are effective in their rolls and I love how they work (though I do miss hunter mode vision).

Anyway, my most effective class is probably the Turian Sentinel. I primarily play against the geth, due to the synergy with overload and what not (the way I have it spec'd, obviously), and it's an absolute blast for me. I use a Valiant II and Hurricane I most of the time (please fix ULM Bioware) and it leads to some really fun gameplay. I remember the first game I played with the Hurricane as my side arm (had been just going with the Valiant for a while, quick scoping at close quarters which got me killed sometimes), saved my ass during extraction. 4 hunters downed in about...2 or 3 seconds. It was insane. Sent out chain overload and then WHAM. Think I had disruptor ammo as well so they were hurting pretty quick.
The new DLC characters (Vorcha and Ex-Cerberus, haven't unlocked Male Quarian) are awesome as well. I'm not super effective with them but I always have fun. Lashing things across the map is hilarious, like watching a Phantom come running up to you only to get whipped off the map. Meleeing as a Vorcha is awesome too, bloodlust makes it super worth it.

Weapon wise, caster classes use maximum damage, minimal exposure, maximum cooldown weapons (e.g. carnifex, phalanx, talon). On classes favouring weapons - any weapon that kills hostiles quickly (e.g. Harrier, Valiant, GPS).
Gear wise, any mod that maximises damage.

That was 5+ upgrade levels for it ago though, so when I saw it in the Drell Adept's class image, I figured I'd give it a go. Pleasant surprise!

Geth Infiltrator with BW or Krysae. All powers spec'ed for damage. Squishy but the best damage dealer.
Best Survivability:
Salarian Infiltrator with BW & Energy Drain.
Funnest classes:
Krogan Sentinel for heavy melee (GRRAAAWWWRRR!) or Human Male Vanguard (Novaguard) (yes, I am one of the few good ones).

been using 66644 focused on biotic hit and run type playstyle.
i use a Disciple X and structural ergonomics, consumables depend on how i want to play so i dont have a specific set i use.
not going to brag about how awesome the class is, because it actually took me many, many games to figure out an effective playstyle.
when to charge, to melee, smash, lash.
when playing gold all the "when to" changes for obvious reasons.
also the learned art of not getting killed all the time.
but if the boss tier enemies are not focused on me, i will usually start cleaning up the lesser enemies so the rest of the team doesnt get shot to death or flanked.
too many times the player being chased by a banshee is killed by marauder, canibal, ravager.
so many tips on playing a vanguard, i could easily make this post too long to read.
i usually top score, but when i dont its usually when my team is full of equally skilled players.
not because my toon setup is OP.

I mostly use biotic classes so my most effective would be either Drell Adept with a carnifex (make everything explode!) or my Drellguard.
Okay, so I have some strange attachment to Drell.

Most effective (for me, not in general): 6/6/6/5/3 human sentinel specced for biotic explosions and using my trusty Phalanx X. Still waiting for a Carnifex to show up to replace the Phalanx, but apparently I don't deserve it as I have several other rares at level 4 or five and even two ultra rares at level two and still no Carnifex.

Nothing really compares to the Infiltrator, and I play mine any time I want a certain victory, but it is definitely boring to rely on one class like that.
I have another build with my GE that I absolutely love (my favorite character/build in the whole game, no Overload, max HP, all weapon damage in AI, accuracy/firerate/extended vision on HM, fully spec'd healing turret, Shield Booster V, Harrier w/ EB/AP, Carnifex w/ scope/AP) but it just got nerfed very noticeably and obnoxiously with the HM damage reduction (not to mention vision reduction), which this Soldier build of mine needed (if anything) more damage potential, not less. I don't think it's quite as viable anymore (or as fun) and I am not happy about it. If my absolute favorite build stays nerfed the way it is now.... Let's just say my longevity playing this game is in question.
Apart from that I mess around with a handful of other characters, but nothing I'm too attached to (I thought this tank AJA of mine with 80% damage resistance, full shields and maxed out duration/weapon damage might have potential as an Asari Soldier (w/ a Harrier, EB/AP) but Reave not providing damage resistance against synthetics is a deal breaker their, such a pronounced weakness against Geth just isn't viable). Which leaves my Phoenix Vanguard, MQE, and Vorcha Sentinel as the only other characters I play (sometimes I pull out my Kroguard, but not often, inability to roll is a problem), none of them terribly high scorers, and if I had to clutch I'd want one of my Geth (preferably the Infiltrator post HM nerf, Engineer just isn't effective enough anymore. And for the record, I noticed no appreciable change on my GI, it's just my Engineer which feels gimped now, so way to nerf the exact wrong thing....again).
In conclusion, Infiltrators are ridiculously OP compared to every other class, making my favorite class even more pitiful in comparison is really annoying and desperately needs to be undone. Undo the HM nerf and my Geth Engineer would be both my favorite character and also a viable one. Leave it the way it is, and my days playing this game are numbered (whereas I had been looking forward to playing this for years to come if I could build up a solid base of Xbox friends to play with, something I've already done but now question whether I should have bothered). Please, please, PLEASE fix HM, if you want me to come to Edmonton, drop to my knees and beg you to fix it, just ask, it would be worthwhile if I could have my favorite character back.

I like to play a variety of characters and tend to try and make use of the less-optimal builds, and some of them have surprised me, so I'm going to have to list a few. I rarely play with great ping, so I tend to like having some margin for error when I play.
Most Effective Builds/Strategies (In no particular order)
- Shotgun Geth Infiltrator with GodlessPaladin's 4/6/6/4/6 build. Most effective by far. I play it as an orbiting team support, using the Geth Plasma Shotgun and Proximity Mine to take out enemies threatening the team's flanks. Fun factor: Eh. It's really fun to use it for a round or two, but it's so easy to overdo and get bored. Hogs the kills and isn't as fun for my team mates.
- 6/0/6/6/6 Human NovaGuard with Talon. When hosting, tank everything in the game with Half-Blast Nova, and headshotting with the Talon. Fun Factor: This is great, really. I tend to support the team by pulling ridiculous aggro, surviving it, and setting off all their combos.
- Quarian Male Engineer with the Mattock. Area tactical scan, arc grenade and incinerate make me a crowd clearing beast that still supports the team. I use the Mattock for its relatively low weight, and it lets me use the Warfighter Package. This is a lot of fun, and I like being able to switch between support and offense at a moment's notice and be good for both. Area Scan is my favorite power evolution in the game and I know from experience how much it helps a team. I love this class.
- Phoenix Project Vanguard with Eviscerator and Phalanx, or Talon. Lash all the smaller foes, charge to detonate, smash on big things. This class is so much fun I just don't even.I start giggling every time I chuck a marauder clear out of the map. When there's four Phoenixes it's just better.
I have also noticed that sniper rifles are only really fun (for me) if you're the only sniper, and they're generally not as efficient as lighter weight weapons. And nothing's worse than trying to headshot a Phantom with the Javelin when there's lag. The three shot snipers are just so much better than the others it isn't even fair.
There's a few other classes I consider really fun that just aren't that effective, like the various krogan. Smacking Cerberus troopers and Marauders never gets old. but their low mobility, large hit boxes and susceptibility to stagger just don't make them practical. The Batarian is in a similar spot, but functions a bit better thanks to Ballistic Blades. So much fun, but it all melts away as soon as I'm up against geth.
