What makes somebody worthy of playing above bronze?

I would like to know what makes a player "good enough" to play higher levels than Bronze. Does having a (supergun name here) make you a worthy silver or gold player? Does having deeper pockets than the next player make you eligible since you can afford to spend real money on endless PSPs to get all the gear and guns?
Does N7 rating make you ready to play silver?
I guess I don't know the measuring stick. There must be a measure right?
I was under the impression that anybody who paid money for a product could use the product as they see fit, but apparently there is a secret "you must be taller than this line to ride" that we should all be aware of.
N7 25's of the community, go play silver or gold if you want. Don't let other players bully you into thinking you are only qualified for bronze.
Bring on the flames, but somebody has to defend the little guy.

Silver, I'll play with whoever. It would be nice if players could do some basic things like learning the layouts of maps and when to use which powers on which enemies (Salarian spamming ED on a charging Brute ftl) before going to silver, because it's a courtesy to the rest of the people you're playing with. But eh, sometimes you have to endure a trial by fire.

Really what is absolutely required for Silver is a healthy amount of situational awareness and the willingness to work with your teammates.
Everything else is just power from guns and your character which comes from time played.

I've played with plenty of low N7's with very little weapons unlocked, BUT they at least tried to play like a team (sticking fairly close, doing objectives, reviving, USING COVER), and things went far better than they have at times with high N7 (1000+) players that felt like being Rambo.

Other than that, play whatever you want. All this elitist BS of people "not being ready" for something is really, really annoying. It makes this MP community look like the CoD mouthbreathers. So be proud, everyone who says "n00bs should stay out of my Gold lobby!!1!"

You are within your right to play on whatever level you want, but if you want to be able to contribute ok at each level you should be more skilled and have better gear as the match level goes up.

If you seem overwhelmed on wave 2 or 3 of Gold, you should drop back down. If by level 7 or 8 things seem OK, then you may be ready.

you are ready for Silver/gold.
for a comparison when i started out i never played with other players... i always soloed in bronze.
i was getting full extractions alone by N7 130 and did my first gold match topping the score board. Was a FBW/G/G but still, i more than knew what i was doing.

If someone puts weapon X on class Y with build Z and it doesn't make any sense, that is a clear sign he is not ready for high difficulty. If someone doesn't have any decent gun on decent level, that is also sign he won't contribute much to higher level match (if he isn't a power user). Maybe, just maybe, if you are getting kicked all the time form gold lobbies there is some reason for it? It is easy to label all kickers as bullies or elitists (and they can bullies and elitists, no doubt about it), but when it happens all the time, maybe you should look for a reason in yourself?
Difficulty reasons are what it says on the tin: more difficult. If you eat bronze matches for breakfast, you probably manage to run silver just fine. But if you have 50% win ratio in bronze, or other players do all the work when you watch them in spectator mode, you really should stiuck to bronze for a little bit more. Everyone has to judge himself.

This X 1000. It helps to have at least one decent gun if you're moving up. Even a low level Phalanx/Tempest or a high level Avenger/Predator/Mantis is plenty good for moving from Bronze to Silver. The Mad Hanar wrote...
Try it out. If you do really poorly, you're probably not ready. You'll never know if you don't try though.
Also, if you're having difficulty moving up, try practicing only a single class for a little while to get really good with that one class - then move up. Human or Turian Sentinel might be the easiest to help transitions because their powers work well with any team, and Tech Armor gives you better survivability. Once you get the hang of the higher level, then you can start using other characters.

3 extraction except him. He got something like 20K points, all from Sniper Rifle kill. I tripled his (GI with GPS, a little lag, and forgot to turn on hunter mode.)I never saw him reave once. His biotics never killed any enemy. He threw 1 grenade, that was between waves.
Another player and me were left to clean wave 9 and 10. The Drell died within 5 sec of extraction. Do you think he was having a good time? We didn't kick him because we think we can carry him and we did. For all it's worth, he wasn't too bad (20K). Yes he paid for his game, but would you advise a new player to try insanity difficulty? I think it's the same as MP. If you don't have the skill, don't go to silver/gold, not only because you are stopping others from enjoy the game, but also you will not enjoy the game watching as a spectator.

That's good advice. Human Sentinel has good synergy with other biotics, and if there are none, he can BE on his own. Good character to be useful if your guns suck.Miniditka77 wrote...

My biggest pet peave is the players who seem to ignore every single objective wave. If you join me in the hack or grab a pizza I will use all my rockets and medi gels if needs be to complete a wave.

I'm sorry, but the solo thing is just BS. I can't solo bronze, yet I extract on silver 99.999% of the time, and on Gold probably 3 or 4 out of 10. When did this soloing thing suddenly become some kind of yardstick?

I did not join a Gold game until I could beat Silver consistently, and effortlessly.
Sure, I wasn't always first on the scoreboard when I started out on Gold but I was never a liability. I think having beaten the SP, played ME 2, having experience with RPGs and shooters in general, and knowing how all of the classes work (having played them all in all of the ME games) made the transition a lot easier.

A good way to venture into the more difficult levels is to find friends to game with. There are a number of groups in our community that are friendly to and willing to help new and less skilled players. Have fun and enjoy!

Sure, do what you want with your product, but other people are going to do the same with theirs, which potentially means you might get booted if people feel you are under-qualified/incompetent. Not everyone is willing to take the time to ease new players into the game.
And this is speaking as someone who's not terribly good at multiplayer, but still finds it loads of fun.

1 - your weapon if common should be VII to X, uncommon or better, I or more.
2 - your should have equipment set.
3 - your equipment should reflect your loadout. (eg: taking an AR amp when using an AR is good, a pistol amp without a pistol, bad)
4 - Understand your character's powers ,and if cooldown matters. I won't kick you for a SR on an adept, but if you have another heavy weapon too, oh yeah.
5 - If your N7 is below 100 or so, get the heck out of gold.

You cant base on score in this game to know if someone is good, at least he have to be above 40k ( in gold), it depends on his role in the team, saying you dont want anyone that scores less than 80k is dumb. Also score in this game is not very accurate.

Solo is bs, no yardstick. I have a friend who is a great player. He soloed Gold - took him 52 minutes. Its an interesting achievement, but it just means he is really good.
Ashen Earth said pretty much what I said: when you are good at bronze - try silver, good at silver - try gold.
