I think as a villain Loghain was quite satisfying but he was only an obstacle in the way of getting to the real bad guy, the archdemon.  Loghain worked well as a villain because he is a person capable of making decisions and he chose to try and kill us and that made things between pc and him personal.  The archdemon being the final boss was a bit of downer because it is just a monster 'programmed' to kill.  We are forced into the role of a grey warden so killing the archdemon is just something  we have to do (of course there were some nice possible twists with the death of demon and it doesnt give me so much satisfaction to kill something because it is going on a genocidal rampage.   felt good about getting rid of Loghain because of the desire for revenge was possible with him.

BG2 worked well in this sense because the stuff between you and Irenicus is personal from the very start.  I think getting rid of the blight mid game and taking care of loghain in the end would have been more satisfying however impossible...

But that ending wouldn't have made any damn sense with the story canon... Considering the power of the Archdemon and the blight. Loghain wasn't the big villain nor should he have been. It would have been very unsatisfying to have a legal battle and then a duel as compared to saving the world.

Beating the Archdemon first would have made Loghain's case since it would mean the blight was easier to defeat than a lord's power struggle. It would also make people wonder the point of Grey Wardens.

Personally I found that the blight wasnt the main bad guy. That was Howe and Loghain. The blight was just there to make the story game feel more pressured / urgent.

I dont think it was ever intended for the blight to be the main centre focus of the story even tho it is important. But that is what is so great.

Meh, I felt sorry for the damn dragon. I mean, he makes those whiny sounds when you hit him that make me feel sad. He's just a poor creature, unable to control his fate. Plus, he's my chars future child.

I know that it wouldn't make sense to beat the archdemon first but i just wouldve prefered my final kill to be my favourite.
For example if Flemeth was the archdemon and the whole time she had been pulling your strings I wouldve been happy because I'd want to kill her for playing me.
I agree that the archdemon wasn't the main bad guy, the focus is mostly on Loghain.  I just didn't like that ultimately your final enemy or the one who poses the most threat is for all intents and purposes a monster with no brain.

Would that mean indignity as well as death?
