Maybe Kaiden doesn't. But Kaidan has. He just don't talk about them much in ME1.

I never knew Ashley could tell Shepard to go "straight to hell." Does Kaidan say something like this too? I can't find a video on it!

With Kaidan it goes:

Shepard: Kaidan, what the hell were you thinking?

Kaidan: I was doing my duty.

Shepard: You stood up for the wrong man.

Kaidan: Better... Better than killing the wrong man.


Whereas Ashley:

Shepard: Ashley... Goddamn it, Ash... He was with Cerberus.

Ashley: So were you... I hope the reapers send you to hell.


Here's a vid... All the deaths are timestamped in the description, but just incase Ashleys low-trust is 18 minutes in and Kaidans are afterwards (the low trust one happens second).

Her last words are "I hope the reapers send you to hell" . Not "I hope the reapers win the war". Of course she is cursing you! You just kiled her! I'm pretty sure I would have some nice things to say to my killer if I ever should get shot.
To quote Uther the Lightbringer "I hope there's a special place in hell waiting for you, Arthas" . Never heard anybody calling Uther ****y after that.

And the drinking scene... while she is "curing" her hangover, Vega is in the kitchen making hangover breakfast. So I'm pretty sure they used their off duty hours to get wasted

Why I saved Ash on Virmine?
Because I'd bothered to interact with every member of my crew and realized Ash had psychologically sound reasons for her fear (not racism) of aliens, and that if I actually talked her through them she would over come them, where as nothing I could say or do would get Kaidan to stop being worrisome over-emotional type who seemed to be just one psychotic breakdown away from going ballistic and gunning down every on deck 3 before the security team could put him down.

Yes, that's what I got.  Mind you, I think it's a perfectly fitting and engaging character archetype. The battle weary but steadfast soldier?  I liked it, I think it's a character that's actually not shown often enough in military games. 
Ashley Williams is just the generic bad ass female soldier and would be easily overlooked if not for that anti-alien sentiment she has which gives her some level of personality beyond just "MARINE CORPS. HUT!"

I'll also concede that a big factor of my own dislike of Kaidan stems from Raphael Sbarge's voice acting because I've always found his delivery a little too heavy handed, which is kind of funny since I've seen him in live-action shows like Law & Order and actually liked him quite a bit.  I just find that his VA performances almost always lean towards this soul-weary sound of introspective emotional turmoil for <insert reason here>.

So yeah, personally think there's plenty of reasons to like (and dislike) both characters, but Kaiden gives me a much stronger paranoia of "dedicated soldier who has no idea he's on the verge of breakdown until it's too late" and that sort of response is what led to my precognitive Commander deciding that, for crew security, it was wiser to let Kaidan die a hero on Virmine.

Because I liked her. She was my 3rd favourite character in the first Mass Effect.

That was one unnecessary tl;dr just to insinuate that "weary" equates to "emotionally unstable." Which it doesn't.

And I'm no fan of either Carth or Kaidan's voice acting (the delivery was fine, but the voice always grated on my ears--like they were perpetually high/the surfer stereotype/needed a bloody big glass of water), but there's nothing in the story at all that even suggests that he is at risk for a violent psychotic break. That's just silly.
