Then again, I'm a hardcore PC gamer. I'm on another gaming forum and the hardcore console players were quite pleased with the results.

Okay, let's humour you for a second. What amazing game came out exclusively on PC?Templar Vilmon wrote...
The PC category got as much time as the "best make-up" technical awards get on other award shows like the Emmys or Oscars.
.
Also, Uncharted 2 definitely deserved that award. The game is amazing.

Also, Dragon Age deserves to at least be nominated for GOTY.

You're kidding right? Demigod, Empire: Total War, Dawn of War 2, Sims 3, Champions Online, Aion, and Tales of Monkey Island for starters.
Demigod was a multiplayer game that didn't have working multiplayer. While Empire had enough bugs to be a Starship Troopers sequel. Dawn of War 2 is the first RTS I've seen which actually goes backwards as far as design innovation is concerned, and the Sims 3 is nothing more than a cash cow.
I love PC exclusives, but I have to admit this was a pretty bad year for them.

That I can agree with. Odd that it wasn't really.

Fair enough - but there were plenty of other games nominated and prominently featured that also had their share of bugs or weren't super-innovative.
Point.

And if we're going to talk about games that are little more than cash cows, how could you not criticize the amount of time the VGAs spent on sports franchises like Madden?
Well, I haven't seen it, and wasn't really defending it as much as pointing out those games weren't really game of the year contenders.
Sports games are a strange breed anyway.

But of course, all dudes love sports and you just can't get the perky cheerleaders to jump up and down for a history sim like Empire Total War.
You could put them in corsets though...

Single player RPGs are always the thinking man's genre and are not going to be appreciated by the majority of the Halo-playing gaming community reveling in their single digit IQs.

What about Men of War and X3:Terran Conflict? Those were certainly the two games I spent most time with (alongside Dragon Age and games not released this year). Sure, the latter was rather buggy on release but that's a minor consideration and a lot of it had been fixed by the time they were considering for the awards.

I played Men of War and liked it. But realistically, it's not going to pick up a mainstream Game of the Year award, as it's not accessible enough. Not many RTS developers are brave enough to make a game where your men actually die after being shot. Additionally I think the game needed a lot more polish, the voice acting was atrocious for instance. I certainly think it deserves a lot more recognition than it has received. It's nice to see something that isn't a Dune II clone.
X3 was released last year. I haven't played it though.
