When you factor out the writing, Bioware games have always been fairly mediocre.

Bioware's writing has never been great either. Their stories tend to be the standard black and white disney tale against big bad ancient evil with tons of inane hero worship.

this couldnt be more wrong, but if you were correct, why are they catching flak for trying t have a non disney ending?

Apart from the endings being completely nonsensical, the butthurt stems from them not being able to ride into the sunset with space waifu/manfu.

The problem is the drop off from the demi-god status to mediocre is incredibly significant. Its like the difference between a nuke and the sun.

at worst mediocre, at worst. I don't think they are demi god status but they are still excellent overall.

Can we not start a flamewar here? Every time someone suggests people wanted a disney end, people will start shouting

Nonexistance perhaps? Never getting a third game out?

Unless EA gives them more development time, nothing will get better.

"Game companies rise, evolve, advance. And at the apex of their glory, they are extinguished."

Some are saying that important members of Bioware have left, some immediately/very soon after EA bought them. Names? Links?
I don't mean to sound suspicious, I'm just curious.

Glad you are, i'm not. I don't even open origin. I just went to where I was wanted and have thus been spending money to the people who deserve it. Maybe all these pro ending people should watch the Jim Sterling video on why BW will be ruined by EA.

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

I'm sure that a majority of the original Bioware staff no longer works there.

I see this get mentioned and it doesn't seem true. I work in the same room as someone who's been with BioWare for 17 years, and someone else who's been here a mere 13 years. Next to my room is a whole bushel of people who worked on games I played in junior high.*

I couldn't give you the actual turnover rate, but it's a place full of great people, and it seems a lot of experienced staff from many games past have stuck around because they love it so much.

*It's both weird and cool to get the inside scoop on those games. Like mentioning a level you loved in KOTOR gets you a hackle-raising tale of blood and sweat and crunch time.

The same Jim Sterling who makes mountains out of molehills? Sorry I can't listen to limbaugh and he's pretty much the gaming limbaugh

Mass Effect is the most thought-provoking, emotionally involving immersive experience I've ever had with a video game, and they managed to package it with enjoyable game-play. I definitely consider Bioware to be one of the greats.

With both DA2 and ME3 (and ME2 but people have been putting on rose colored glasses) there have been some flaws, like repeating dungeons or weak endings. People say that these games are basically **** now and that Bioware should go out of business. I still found both of those games to be a lot of fun even on multiple play throughs and much better than other games out there like Resonance of Fate, Bullet Storm, Oblivion etc. What I am saying is even if ME3 and DA2 are not up to Bioware's par, it certaintly doesn't mean Bioware is a failing company, it just means they are slightly better than most of the other games out there instead of being much better./opinion

ME1 wasn't perfect either, those repeated areas were a common weakness there too.

ME2 had the most diverse side missions, but that's only because ME3 didn't have any.

Gimme a break. Go out of business? Seriously?

All of the Bio games mentioned were huge hits, awesome games, and won almost universal praise. ME3 was awesome except for some people weren't satisfied with ending. Now one of the best game studios ever, who've made some of the best games ever, is supposed to shut down?

Sometimes the nerd angst on these forums makes me wanna puke.

  • Mediocre Company = Wait Months Until Purchase [Heavily discounted during seasonal sale]
  • Bad Developer = Skip / Avoid Completely [Zero spent]
BioWare mediocre?  Fine by me, but please reference the chart above.

Are you blind?

ME1, as a game, was mediocre. Its only saving grace was its narrative and nostalgia factor. ME2 and ME3 were much better.

But yea, let's just bash on the new games. It's the cool thing to do now a days.

Pretty much my system as well. I will still play Bioware games and don't wish them to close down. But I will never buy a full price Bioware game after DA2 and ME3. They are still decent games but not worth the full price

So, playing it only a few months ago (just before ME3 release) makes ME1 likeable due to nostalgia? Its not that the game was any good then? Interesting...

Personally, I prefer Valve and Bethesda. Obsidian released some pretty sweet titles too, and Black Isle was great back in the day. Bioware? Meh.

Wait, what?

There is no such thing as "good" whenever you nullify and contradict your own plot points in a proceeding installment of the series. That is universal.

They used to swing for the fences, now they just square up to bunt. The passion and power are gone and they're content to do "just enough" (BioWare's new motto) to stay in the lineup. No one roots for "that" guy and no one is surprised when he's off the team next year.
