With both DA2 and ME3 (and ME2 but people have been putting on rose colored glasses) there have been some flaws, like repeating dungeons or weak endings. People say that these games are basically **** now and that Bioware should go out of business. I still found both of those games to be a lot of fun even on multiple play throughs and much better than other games out there like Resonance of Fate, Bullet Storm, Oblivion etc. What I am saying is even if ME3 and DA2 are not up to Bioware's par, it certaintly doesn't mean Bioware is a failing company, it just means they are slightly better than most of the other games out there instead of being much better./opinion
It's sad to say, I agree that this has dropped BioWare to the level of any other game
company out there. To me, that is a very bad thing. I'm not much of a gamer. I don't buy a lot of games. Few games even
manage to get my attention. Fewer manage to convince me to buy them.
Fewer still convince me to finish them. And very very few convince me to
play them multiple times. There are only a dozen or so games that I've played more than once.
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy X-2
Kingdom Hearts
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Star Wars: Jedi Academy
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II
Jade Empire
Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2
Dragon Age: Origins
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Fable 2
Other than BioWare, you have Square, which has changed a lot over the years. Their games are alright still, but they don't grab me and pull me in anymore. You have the company that made VTMB who is out of business (sad, because the first half of that game was as good as any BioWare game at the time). You have Rocksteady who made a great series with the Batman Arkham franchise, but the only reason I enjoy it so much is because it's Batman. If it were some random character, I problably wouldn't be interested, truth be told. And Fable 2 which had an ok story, but not great.
Now, narrowing that list down to games I've played more than 4 times, and you have
KOTOR
VTMB
ME
ME2
BioWare is the only studio that makes games that have everything I want from a game: character customization (fully voiced please, I've been spoiled, and it makes a huge difference to the story), the impact of your choices on the story, well written stories with interesting and dynamic characters. Unless the gameplay is so bad that it's virtually unplayable, I probably won't care too much if it has all those other elements. So they failed in the one area that means the most to me, and they failed badly. I'll be much more cautious in the future with them.
