BioWare mediocre?  Fine by me, but please reference the chart above.

Pretty much my system as well. I will still play Bioware games and don't wish them to close down. But I will never buy a full price Bioware game after DA2 and ME3. They are still decent games but not worth the full price

This, before ME3 and DA2 dropped they were always a day 1 buy for me, the minute DA2 came out and I heard the horror, I was like couldn't happen to ME3, boy i was wrong.

It isn't promising. It especially isn't promising that they clearly, blantantly, and knowingly falsely advertised Mass Effect 3 even up to a few weeks before the release.

But maybe this whole fiasco will teach them (and maybe just maybe, EA) that the consumer is the one who funds them. They claim to have opened their ears for DA3, and while I won't pre-order, I'll keep two eyes on it.

Difference between ME3 and ME2, is that ME2 was consistently satisfying throughout. ME3, with Tuchanka and Rannoch as its highest points, reaches only a "decent", with the ending dragging it down to "god-awful".

One game being better than the other has nothing to do with fanciful nostalgia.

And we're supposed to be happy about mediocrity?

When you factor out the writing, Bioware games have always been fairly mediocre.

Bioware's writing has never been great either. Their stories tend to be the standard black and white disney tale against big bad ancient evil with tons of inane hero worship.

Do ya guys even like the games because very view here seem to like anything.

People say that these games are basically **** now and that Bioware should go out of business. I still found both of those games to be a lot of fun even on multiple play throughs and much better than other games out there like Resonance of Fate, Bullet Storm, Oblivion etc. What I am saying is even if ME3 and DA2 are not up to Bioware's par, it certaintly doesn't mean Bioware is a failing company, it just means they are slightly better than most of the other games out there instead of being much better./opinion

It's sad to say, I agree that this has dropped BioWare to the level of any other game
company out there. To me, that is a very bad thing. I'm not much of a gamer. I don't buy a lot of games. Few games even
manage to get my attention. Fewer manage to convince me to buy them.
Fewer still convince me to finish them. And very very few convince me to
play them multiple times. There are only a dozen or so games that I've played more than once.

Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy X-2
Kingdom Hearts
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Star Wars: Jedi Academy
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II
Jade Empire
Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2
Dragon Age: Origins
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Fable 2

Other than BioWare, you have Square, which has changed a lot over the years. Their games are alright still, but they don't grab me and pull me in anymore. You have the company that made VTMB who is out of business (sad, because the first half of that game was as good as any BioWare game at the time). You have Rocksteady who made a great series with the Batman Arkham franchise, but the only reason I enjoy it so much is because it's Batman. If it were some random character, I problably wouldn't be interested, truth be told. And Fable 2 which had an ok story, but not great.

Now, narrowing that list down to games I've played more than 4 times, and you have
KOTOR
VTMB
ME
ME2

BioWare is the only studio that makes games that have everything I want from a game: character customization (fully voiced please, I've been spoiled, and it makes a huge difference to the story), the impact of your choices on the story, well written stories with interesting and dynamic characters. Unless the gameplay is so bad that it's virtually unplayable, I probably won't care too much if it has all those other elements. So they failed in the one area that means the most to me, and they failed badly. I'll be much more cautious in the future with them.

I'm sure that a majority of the original Bioware staff no longer works there.

I see this get mentioned and it doesn't seem true. I work in the same room as someone who's been with BioWare for 17 years, and someone else who's been here a mere 13 years. Next to my room is a whole bushel of people who worked on games I played in junior high.*

I couldn't give you the actual turnover rate, but it's a place full of great people, and it seems a lot of experienced staff from many games past have stuck around because they love it so much.

*It's both weird and cool to get the inside scoop on those games. Like mentioning a level you loved in KOTOR gets you a hackle-raising tale of blood and sweat and crunch time.

I meant no offense to the hardworking people of Bioware.  Indeed I feel sorry for the grunts that do the great work when allowed to.  It sucks that the leadership wants to spend more money on adverts and hype than actual quality games.  For me ME3 was like one of those movies where it's going along ok and then you can tell the budget just ran out.  I blame the owners for selling out and allowing EA to get their hands on the controls.  Not the passionate game makers that obviously love what they're doing.

Gimme a break. Go out of business? Seriously?

All of the Bio games mentioned were huge hits, awesome games, and won almost universal praise. ME3 was awesome except for some people weren't satisfied with ending. Now one of the best game studios ever, who've made some of the best games ever, is supposed to shut down?

Sometimes the nerd angst on these forums makes me wanna puke.

EA has lost over 40% of it's value in the stock market over the past 6 months.  I guess investors are just angsty nerds instead of savvy business people that know a sinking ship when they see one.

With Disney owning Marvel it really could add something new to those games

I was really excited after reading a story on that possibility recently. Sora, Donald, and Goofy kicked much ass.

lol @ no one mentioning Sylvf's quote.
Bioware still has the great employee's that made great games, they just adapted to the times (unlike any of you) and will continue to make great games. Please everyone get off that nostalgia, it can be very bad for you

Mass Effect (2007), Dragon Age: Origins (2009), and Mass Effect 2 (2010) aren't anywhere remotely nostalgic.

By "adapted to the times" you mean rushing games out in 2 years or less? Falsly advertising and cutting corners? Cutting certain parts of the game out to sell as DLC on the first day? Bull****. BioWare adapted to EA's style, and that's not a good thing.

It failed, we don't need an explanation. We need a FIX or a heavy rewrite, which they have stated they are not doing.

You think they're gonna change their release schedules because of some angry nerds...please.It's the way things work now, yes they suck, but these guys are here to make money...every 1 nerd that is here raging like the comic book guy of the simpsons saying "WORST GAME EVAHH" there are 20 casual gamers who probably loved the game adn are spending tons of REAL money on the MP,does that suck?

YES, 100% but it's they way it's been working since Activision saw that it could release the same game every year make trllions of dough, heck I played most of them, but never have I been so immersed in world like mass effect, even with the poor job they made with ME3 in the ending and dialogue it's still a great story and great experience.I also loved Alan wake, that was a great idea and a great game...

...but I'm derailing here, the fact is that as long as they know that the casual buyers mean more cash than the raging, lore studying, obssessive compulsive nerdy fans(I include myself there) believe me this will go on till the end of days...

With games like this it's very hard IMO to attract casual gamers and keep the fanbase happy...

Haha, vocal minority, whiners, malcontents and now nerds. Meanwhile EA's stock goes further in the tank. Keep up the good work!
