While I support an individual's right to choose, even something as relatively simple as an avatar on a forum, I have to say, were I in his position (and there was not some manner of official policy preventing me from doing so), I'd probably do it, just for a little bit.
Why? Because its funny, and because it'd prove what I'd already know to be true, that I pay attention to the community, even if I wouldn't (and shouldn't) always cave to demands. Of course, one could say that doing anything the community demands is caving, but that would actually be caving to a different kind of community pressure.
I also might modify it, then post it and use it, just because I'm like that. Maybe something like "Why yes I have white hair" "and you're getting the Eagle V".
