Is it possible to cast Force Field on an ally during battle in the Xbox version of the game? I can't figure out how to get my caster (Morrigan) to target an ally in battle. It seems like I can only target enemies. If I cast Force Field with no one targetted, she just casts the spell on herself.
Am I missing something really basic or is there just no way to target allies with spells like this one?

Exact same bug here. Perfect use for that spell is to protect your tank. Why would I want to protect an enemy? Fix this bug on the XBOX 360.

I think the bug is on the PC. It's not meant for protection, I don't think. I always saw it as a way to just get one big dude out of the fight until you got the other mobs cleared, and then you could go back in force. I've never been able to use it on friendlies, and I figured it wasn't mean to be... Though I do know lots of pc folks do it as a cheap way to tank. Like God mode for tankers. Boring...

actually what you need to do is this.
make sure that one of your friendlies is highlighted by you as if you were going to talk to them then cast.

PatT2: Well, the spell says "Friendly Fire Possible" and you can cast it on allies out of combat so it's not an enemy-only spell.
Pauldarian: That works for me when I'm out of combat. But during combat (when I really need the spell), allies don't get highlighted when I point at them (this might be unique to the xbox version).

What happens with me is that when I have an enemy nearby, and I don't target him properly I will just cast it on myself, I think once it occured SOMEHOW I was able to cast it upon an ally whilst in combat, but I can't imagine you'd use that spell in normal encounters, most certainly in uber fights where every second counts.

Right. Casting it on allies would be an emergency tactic to keep them alive.

You can target your own party members during combat using the D-pad on the Xbox.

True. However, that takes time, and they could easily be dead by that time.

Thus the conclusion of the comments? Bring LOADS of potions with you and pause in-game and quick heal via Radial menu.

Press and hold LT. If you look over to whoever you want to cast it on, they should become highlighted. Cast away.

This is the correct answer. Using the D-pad, I'm now able to target allies in battle and cast force field on them.
Thanks, Pneumococcus!

This is the way to go. You can even cycle through everyone while the game is paused like this.

Yes, but what about setting this as a tactic? I tried setting it to have my mage cast on an ally when health goes below 50%, but the mage kept casting on themselves...

yeah it would have been pretty nifty if you could set tactics like.
cast forcefield on companion that is currently taking the most damage or something of that nature
