Considering I just played with a guy in the top 10 of the world leader board who didn't even know how to biotic combo, I'd say N7 is absolutely irrelevant by and large.

One of the most idiotic players I ever encountered was a top N7 ranker. I ran into him doing FBWG and he called me a liar for saying I cleared that geth map under his best time(23:12 or something close to that) pretty much every day and he then laughed in my face when I told him it was one of the slowest ways to finish gold.

Some players don't promote. Look at my manifest, my N7 rating is like 360. Yea.

In my experience, people with N7 in the thousands are almost all not that great. Especially seems true for those above 2000.
N7 840 myself, though I spend long stretches not promoting, including now, unless there's an operation that requires it. I don't personally think it means anything. I see people of all levels play terribly and people of all levels play at least somewhat competently, if not good.
Only thing you can glean from N7 is playtime, and even then it's not accurate if they choose not to promote. It means nothing in regards to skill. It should, as if you've played longer you should know how to play, but it doesn't.
