I was wondering if anyone knew any decent or good upcoming/established MMOs that they have played... I would prefer one with a game card that I could buy at a local retailer since I don't like giving out info on the internet.

And please do not even post the letters WoW on here, that game sucks..

I would prefer one that doesn't cost $15/mo.

DDO Eberron is completely free and somewhat fun. Purely instanced game, so don't expect ginormous areas to wander in.

Forget it, man.

Get yourself into a first person shooter or some other means of online play. MMO's will only drain your money and cause unneeded amounts of grief just to satisfy that "feeling of accomplishment" you get from leveling up a character. None of them are worth it.

If you think that what I just told you sounded like the ravings of an FPS fan, then your condition is even worse than you think.

Try a search for Guild Wars, you can download a trial from the main site. You have to buy the game itself, but it is free to play after that.

It isn't a true MMO, but the lines are rather blurred on that one.

Anarchy Online is sci-fi, has a pretty good backstory, free to play and quite fun once you get the hang of things. It has a complex learning curve, but nothing that can't be solved by pulling up a few game guides from the official forums and also asking players in-game. The only problem IMHO is that after you've spent some time there as a 'froob' ("free noob") you start noticing the discrepancy between content that's available to free players and paying players. Also, the community doesn't seem to be as large or interactive as before (I suspect many have gone on to AoC or other newer MMOs). Still, it's a fun game and will occupy you for a couple of hours or weeks without having to pay for it. :)

Nothing currently out is all that great. One of the highest rated free-to-play games is Runes of Magic. Maybe you will like it.

Let me see there is WOW ( World of Warcraft) EQ 2 ( Everquest 2) , as suggested above Guild Wars , All which have trial periods , from 10 to 14 days , MMO's are fun but can get annoying, but that is my opinion , everyone has there own idea and opinion of MMO's some great and well some not so great , so in the end you will form your own opinion .

I have played Runes of Magic but it wasn't all that great, a bit tedious in fact. Played Guild Wars before and it is pretty good, may wait for GW2 though...

I have played competitively on Xbox360 for quite a few years but the amount of whining players and kids who can curse like sailors is quite annoying.

I think I will probably just stick to single player RPGs for now then.

Pirates of the Burning Sea is a good MMO in my opinion. Though it's a monthly charge game, and it's not for the light hearted since open-world pvp is pretty prevalent. Depends on your preferences really. The complicated ship/economy system and the pvp is probably why the population is so low, still a good game though. No MMO's have grasped my particular tastes since Shadowbane (it's over now) and before that Ultima Online.

Go to sleep and wake up when Guild Wars 2 is released.

It sucks that for many MMO's you pay a monthly fee.

I have been playing Dungeons and Dragons Online for 3 years. It is awesome. It has recently gone free-to-play too. Check it out, its worth it.

As already mentioned, try D&DO or perhaps Allods Online (it's in beta currently), but I'd really suggest waiting for Guild Wars 2. The 1st one was phenomenal, and the sequel will expand on basically ALL elements of the original... and there's no monthly subscription so thumbs up for that.

I'd recommend WoW but it's been complete crap since 2008 when Blizzard started selling out to the casuals. Just wait for Star Wars: The Old Republic.

I have been looking for a new MMO also, sick of MW and MW2.
The gameplay for Pirates of the Burning Sea was terrible when i played, unless they drastically changed that game it is probably not worth it. The pvp area's are quite extreme though, kind of like Eve.

I have high hopes for Star Wars The Old Republic.

Eve Online is worth a look. It's set in space with ships instead of the usual fantasy fare. But on top of that it's noteworthy for the way players can actually shape the game world instead of just playing the same quests over and over with other people.

I'm not sure whether you can buy gametime cards in stores though.

Guild Wars has a good pricing model. I'd be more interested in MMOs if others followed its example.

I'm having fun with Lord of the Rings Online. Great game if you like quest-based gaming or Tolkien lore. I also think they have specials that you can subscribe for $10 / month.

The character models are spectacularly terrible.

I like how you don't think pretty much every MMO released from now on isn't going to go casual.

SW:TOR will probably be the same way. "Hardcore" MMOs have a tendency to have low subscription rates and companies are in it for the money.

I played (wasted time on) WoW for three years before finding EQ2. Honestly, if you enjoy MMOs and want a traditional fantasy type, EQ2 is hands down the best-executed one out there.

All of the MMO "features" are well-designed and implemented...barring PvP, but it is a PvE game, meant to fill the niche for people who enjoy questing, grouping, and raiding. Their guild system, leveling and guild halls are the best i've found (and I play a LOT of games).

I disagree, I think the gamplay was VERY good, just not fast paced. It was more like chess than anything(I'm talking about ship combat.) I played it near release, I've since stopped playing however since my computer's hard drive fried. I don't know how it's changed since then, you'll have to research that if you're interested.

I too have high hopes for SW:TOR but, seeing hints of a "trinity" system has really put me off, I hate that system so much. SO MUCH.

I find the "trinity" to be necessary for MMOs. Otherwise you end up with everyone just zerging instances/bosses, and as someone who prefers to tank I find that extremely unappealing.

WoW had millions of suscribers long before it became an EZ mode circle jerk for the casuals. So your statement is a blatant falsehood.

I played pre-BC. It wasn't that hard, at least not compared to some other MMOs. The only thing that was an absolutely insane grind was High Warlord/ I forget the Alliance one.

40 mans were definitely more epic and I enjoyed them more than the 10 mans but they really weren't that hard.

Im playing Guild Wars sometimes beside my console games. Still a nice mmorpg. And its working really fine with 56kbit/s. You wont find another game doing this.
