Elitism in any form
People who think they know how to make games better than the developers
People who state their opinions of games as if they were fact

I'd probably go with three big annoyances.

A.) (This kind of goes for the whole Internet age actually) Everything is either the worst thing ever, or is completely overrated. The level of criticism is so bad that it seems like no one can just enjoy playing a damn game. There is something about a game that a person dislikes and suddenly no good thing can come out of that game ever. There are times I hate Swtor, but can acknowledge when there is something really good about it, just like I can love ME3 and still get pissed off about certain aspects of the game.

B.) The way women are treated in the gaming community. The way everybody's demeanor changes when a woman enters a lobby or a guild discovers the identity of their healing mage... Suddenly all attention (both positive and negative) is drawn onto them. Some people will try to be as horrible to them as possible either by trying to say hurtful gender bashing comments, or trying to talk nasty to them in an attempt to get them to...I don't know what?...sleep with them? Show them nude photos? Then you have guys who want the same thing but try to go about it in a different approach. They try to be as nice as possible...overly nice...they constantly have to try and get a word in with the woman, they give them preferential treatment above everybody else, and defend them like a gallant white knight even when she isn't asking for it.

C.) The rudeness/hostility towards one another. So many different things can factor into why a person in an online game/forum is a jerk. But taking it out on random strangers for no reason other than because you can without consequence irritates the hell out of me. To go out of your way to harass another individual because you were team killed, had a kill stolen, had a different opinion, or was of some race, gender, religion, or whatever background truly boggles my mind. We play games to have fun, yet I see more people getting their blood pressure up instead.

This times 1000x.  These boards are a perfect example.

Adding on to that:

I hate how a lot of gamers project an air of arrogance and intellectual superiority.  The massive threads raging about ME3 are always full of sarcastically smug reponses that act like using the term "deus ex machina" makes them literary wizards.

We play video games.  We can talk about them intelligently, but lets face facts.  We might as well be arguing about NFL football.  Its so difficult to maintain a middle ground with gamers.  I had issues with ME3's ending, but didn't think it ruined the trilogy in any way.  Everytime I post anything even remotely positive about the ending, I'm attacked as being a "****" a "casual," "not a true fan," etc.  Its very irritating.

So many things to choose from, but for me it'd probably be the insane levels of hostility and volatile language used in any discussion.

It's as if any issue regardless of seriousness or number of disagreements has to be turned into a perverbial shouting match of swear words and personal insults just to show others how commited to one side of the arguement a prerson is compared to the other person.

Also how every thread has to be made about the big issue in the community, like with the ME3 endings, every theread has to have someone post about the endings as derail the whole thing into the most volitile issue around.

I'll even give an example.

"Hey guys, what time is it?"

"Um, 12:30?"

"My clock says 1;34, probably my timezone"

"Adventure time. ;)"

"12:32"

"Time for bioware to lie some more!"

"That's not even close to the truth."

"NO U!"

"NO U @##$$ FACE!!!!"

"AGGHSHFHG!!!N@#HJ!@H#!@!@!@!!!!!!!"

"RHTHWETRH@$IYU$(!#U*$@#(U$(!U&$!!!!!!"

And thus you have an average thread derail in action.

I agree with most of the points made in this thread, but I'll add one more.  Entitlement.  Yes, the dreaded buzzword that professional critics use about fans.

It's this culture about "I deserve X out of this game!" that annoys me.  First off, what you deserve means nothing in terms of real life.  Some people deserve to be lauded as the saintly beings that they are, others deserve to be shot on sight, but the world doesn't work that way.  Secondly, the game industry does not exist to indulge your personal whims.  Like all industries, it exists to make money by filling a market niche.  As long as they are making money, most companies only care about customer satisfaction since negative press can hurt sales.  If the complaint is big enough, they might even try to make amends (like Bioware with the EC).  But let's be real here, it's a business first and foremost.  Thirdly, buying anything is a gamble about quality, when such quality is not specifically regulated by law.  It's just as ridiculous to say "Bioware cheated me out of $60!" as it is to say "I paid $100 for this Extenze and it didn't work at all!"  Granted, it's a bit of a leap to compare Bioware to scammers selling bogus enlargement pills, but buying anything is a judgement call.  You don't "deserve" a certain quality out of a luxury good like a game.  You can have standards, yes, but whining about what you deserve just makes you sound entitled, regardless of whatever salient points you may make.

The demand that they feel like a hero:
This mindset generally translates to "I want to play as BadassMchandsomeAwesomepants and get away with whatever the hell I want".

Things that come with this mindset are:
- The demand that they always get a happy ending.
- The demand that whenever they're faced with a tough decision they should always get a third option.
- The insistance that if a game's an RPG they should be able to have the world conform to their whims.

@jollyorigins, Thanks, I always wanted to be hated in a good way! :D
But I am digressing.
What I hate the most are two things;

1) character-flame wars: Everyone has their ups and downs, but to try and say one is better than the other is a little dumb. It becomes super dumb when it explicitly says Character A (often the MC or Final Villain) is stronger/better than character B (In strength or experience, etc. Not personality since that isn't exactly debatable.) It becomes ultra-impossibly dumb when you argue over two characters from two DIFFERENT games. and when they are both villians. Like Sephiroth and Kefka (I'm surprised no one mentioned this yet.) Somehow, whenever villains are brought up, I immediately see a post related to Sephiroth and then the flame wars start. It's ridiculous.

2) When someone tells me they hate a game and like another more. I ask why and they tell me why they hate a game. Ok, but why do you like the other one? They have no apparent reason. They just do apparently. Apparently they don't think everything about was better than all others like it or anything, they just thought it was the best for no reason. I don't get it. If I have no particular reason, I let people know I like everything about it, what's so hard about that? Not like it hasn't happened before. The other way around is much more annoying though.

Homophobia. There's lots of it. And it's totally acceptable too, apparently.

"True fan" and "Core fan base".. those two makes my life 3 second shorter every time I see them.

Flame wars. They are pointless. Especially the ones centred around whether character X is better than Y or Z.
