So I started running a new campaign a couple weeks ago, on a survey-mission campaign model. The PCs are the away team of on a Citadel survey vessel, looking for inactive mass relays. I can start a new thread if people want to hear more about it.
Anyway, I'd like to start a thread to brainstorm adventure hook ideas for an exploratory-style game; one that uses the well-thought-out species and technology from the Mass Effect series without going too deeply into the Reapers-are-coming side of things.
Things a Survey Mission outside Citadel Space might encounter:
1: Batarian pirate base established to harass colonies.
2: Prothean-era ruins. Vacant or inhabited by scavangers, animals, etc.
3: Geth listening post (heavily shielded and cloaked)
4: Illegal/Unrecorded Colony, established by Batarians, a human nation not a members of the Systems Alliance, etc.
5: A lost population of colonists from a generation ship, from before the invention of hyper-speed.
6: Assimilatory super-organism...something like the Thorian, but possibly even more dangerous.
7: Eezo deposit in a previously-unknown distribution. Might throw off sensors.
8: Derelict spaceship...this could lead to all sorts of awful.
9: Quarians, whether on pilgrimage or a part of the Migrant Fleet, looking for resources.
