If you "Harden" Alistair, then recruit Loghain, does Alistair stay? I thought I read in another thread that suggested he would stick around.

In the toolset, there are signs that at some point in DAO's development, you were able to keep both. However, I've tried going through the Landsmeet with a cynical Alistair, and he still won''t hang around if you recruit Loghain.

I think someone said that it's possibly to "keep" Alistair strictly as king IF you recruit Loghain, but Alistair will leave the party because he can't stand the idea of Loghain becoming a Warden, etc. etc. I don't recall exactly how you're supposed to manage it - seemed to be rather convoluted.
Ah, if only the search function worked, maybe I could find it again.
At any rate, there's no way to have them in both stay in your party together though - none.

In the PC's talks with Loghain, there's an "if Alistair is King" option, so I suppose there is/has been at some point a way to save Loghain and get Alistair on the throne. The DA Wiki is a bit confused on the issue, and I can't see anyway to get to that situtation through the Landsmeet dialogue tree.

From what I've read (I haven't done this myself, but people have mentioned it on the forums), if you harden Alistair, convince him and Anora to marry, and then spare Loghain, Alistair will leave the party out of hatred for Loghain, but won't leave the country, as he does otherwise, and will become king at the end.

Yep I have done this it works. Also he gets really pissed off at you at the end if you do the dark ritual so both you and Loghain survive.

Okay - I'll have to load up a save near the landsmeet and have another go. Thanks, guys.

What Colenda said. I know now exactly what dialogue Rangrim (the noble dwarf I'm currently using as my avatar photo) is aiming for. Except, no Morrigan. Loghain gets to die, Morrigan doesn't get her baby, and I get to be alive.
Sounds full of win, to me.
