As some of you may know, my game had been playing just fine from the start.
I installed 1.01b and still, everything ran fine!
Installed 1.02 and it was crash city!!!
I fixed that issue by removing the 2005 Visual C++ runtimes and replacing them with 2008, updated PhysX to the latest version, then updated my ATI Catalyst Control Center and drivers to 9.11 from 9.10.
Everything was running fine, I'd made it all the way to Orzimar, having gathered the 3 out of the 4 parties needed for the war,
Saved my game last night and went to sleep.

Got up today, and it's a nasty, raining, freezing, icy day. Good day to stay inside and play Dragon Age!

Every save game I tried locked up on me. This was odd, it was just working. The game didn't change over night, Windows 7 didn't do any updates...what changed???

I had installed 2 programs: CleanMem, and RivaTuner!!!

I removed both, and the game magically works perfectly with all graphics on hig once again!

Lesson learned, for some reason, small TSR (terminate and stay resident, for those that don't remember DOS) type programs DO have an effect on this game! If your having troubles, go through your uninstall programs list in your control panel with a fine toothed comb and remove anything you think shouldn't be there!
