Both as a character and an LI?  

His character is one of the better written in the series in my opinion, especially considering he's arguably a secondary character.  And although he may not get as much screen time as other characters/squaddies, his story resonates with you, and you become invested in his character (or at least I did).

Steve deserves more love!! <3

No real complaints about him from my end. He does his job and he does it well. But he's just not as memorable to me as say Ken, Gabby, or some of the other crew members of the Normandy. As an LI there are certainly worse ones though.

I've read a lot of people's opinions of him on forums and while many like him, many don't.  Some say his character is boring, others say his character development wasn't written well.

I'm also a Tumblr user and there are rarely any new posts with the tag "Steve Cortez" in them.  Whereas with many other characters, there are new posts regularly.

I like him a lot. Good guy. Good character. His writer and (especially) his voice actor did some good work with him.

Depends on how good we're talking. It's not on par with Garrus or Liara, but it is more fullfilling than say Jacob, Thane, and Jack. His romance is pretty straightforward and simple. It lacks the time to develop like some of the other romances, and doesn't really stand out as great chemistry. However, they could have handled it a lot worse or made a big deal about his sexual prefrences. I like how nobody in the game seems to care and that the writers didn't make his personality revolve around it either. Though when I think of Cortez I only really remember him talking about his husband alot. So to me it unintentionally became one of his defining characteristics.

I liked him. He was a cool cat and is a total bro if you don't romance him. One of my favorites of the new ME3 characters. Doubt I'll ever romance him since i'm not into that, but an cool dude regardless

He's grieving because he lost his husband to the Collectors 6 months ago; Shepard's had years to grieve and get over the loss of his/her parents.  Besides, anyone who loved and lost thier spouse in such a way would be scarred by such an experience.  I feel Cortez an authentic representation of humanity.  If one can allow themselves to understand his position, I don't know how they could find that annoying. :/

Whaaat? He didn't complain once. Mourning isn't the same as complaining.

And if someone underrates him, the person is just too afraid to be ninjamanced by him(which is impossible if one is using at least 1 % of his or her brainpower) and because of that, they won't talk to him at all. His romance is outstanding, his character is spectacular, the progression of the friendship/romance is fantastic, his voice actor is perfect, blue eyes:wub:. All in all he is absolutely outstanding.

No not only that, there 's a few other things. I don't hate him, but a few things annoy me.
1-How he always finds a reason to leave early in a mission.
2-the part where he almost gets shot down, and the absurd dialogue.
3-And still the grieving, I get annoyed at characters where they're plot revolves around grieving.

Apart from that hes cool, I don't find him underrated.

Cortez is a terrible pointless character, whose only purpose in the story is to loiter around waiting for the player character to screw him. That's plain bad writing. He's not underrated.

1-I misread that, but still, I believe you're statement is wrong. Just because someone "underrates him" is not because they're afraid of being ninjamanced, it can be also because they didn't find the character interesting

I love the Cortez x James occasional banter, sometimes i wish i had him as a squad companion, imagine all the endless hilarious dialogue... "You know you love the show esteban!!!"

But at same time im afraid of him lol... When i think of my experience of suddenly getting hit on by Anders frm DAII... thats not cool...

I adored Steve. He was a good buddy to my Shepard. His friendship with Vega was the only thing that kept me from wanting to slap the latter across the face with a wet fish.

4. Nonooonono. I didn't mean it like that. I meant that I can't possibly love him more than the rest of the community does combined since there's thousands of people who have an opinion about him and I'm just one guy. There are people who like him, love him, dislike him and hate him, and I'm totally cool with that.

I like his interactions with Vega, but otherwise he seems too much "guy with a dead husband" with not enough else there. Maybe it's different in a romance.
