Rogues: favourite poison?

I started my second game, featuring a Dalish melee rogue. Since I never used weapon poisons at all in my first playthrough (human noble warrior, with Leliana who only tossed some bombs around in big fights) I'm curious which poisons people favor. I guess once I get Coup de Grace, the ones that have a chance to stun are no-brainers. Or do they not proc often? And which other poisons does everyone favor?

According to GameBanshee most only add 1-3 extra damage so I guess I'll stick with the deathroot recipes for the stun.

Does anyone have positive experience with magebane and soldier's bane? Since mages are always the first target my guess is that magebane isn't worth it, but what about soldier's bane? Does it work on bosses like the dragonkin or the broodmother?

Thanks for any replies, they'll save me a good deal of gold experimenting, and gold is hard to come by in a new game. ;)

I honestly don't bother with the poisons. My Rogue is a backstabber, though, so any extra damage I miss by not having my weapon poisoned I make up on my next Backstab. Besides, poisons only add a couple of points of their appropriate element as damage. Not exactly game-breaking.

Do you bother with Elemental Weapons?

And in any big/tough battle, l say use everything youve got to win....afterall, Grey Wardens do whatever it takes, right?

Op-While poisons are not God Killers, they come in handy at the right time and place...just like everything else.

On my rogue I used concentrated crow poison.

My DW warrior favored shock and flame coating.

I had Zev use anything that mobs dropped or any random poison I could make with available mats.

As swk3000 mentioned, poisons aren't really that great, but they add another element to combat if you chose to use them.

You can use more than one poison at the same time. The damage adds from multiple higher level poisons can be impressive.

I've never gotten far enough to start worrying about them. I keep restarting my Rogue to make him perfect. Mostly, it's the Talent Progression I'm having problems with. I've got one that I like the look of, but it doesn't let me have Stealth, so it's not the greatest. I just can't figure out how to work Stealth in with everything else I'm trying to get going.

i like the idea behind some of them such as magebane, but those are really only useful against bosses who can take more than a few hits in the first place. i like deathroot because it's effective, cheap, and plentiful.

ufff Poison rocks.. several poisons stack and do nasty things like steal stamina, slow or paralize... and there are poisons that deals different kinds of damage: nature, fire, ice..

To answer your question i mix various poisons in the same weapon...

Working Stealth in is pretty easy if you go with a Dex-centered Rogue.  Not needing Lethality frees up 3 Talent slots in the relatively-early going.

Poisons wear off pretty quick , so unless you are cheating just use them in bigger fights

As far as I know "Quiet death" is the best poison in the game

Poisons/coatings all stack , you can have like 10 extra things on at once

best single poison in my opinion is concentrated crow poison. it does everything, damage and debuffs and can be made with easily acquired ingredients.

best poison strategy is to stack them. use 3 or 4 poisons at a time on the fights where you really want to juice your damage output. can get pricey though.

Since the damage from poinson is pretty low, I go for those that do other things, such as stunning and draining mana or stamina.

I stick too Deathroot.

However, I hear that poisons stack so you can slap on half a dozen poisons. I never tried it, but I hear it works. Will try it on my 3 rogue run through.

It's too ****g expensive to use poisons with any consistency. And by mid-game my rogue was backstabbing 3-and-out on most mobs, so you're only talking about missing 6 or 7 damage per poison per mob... which ain't gonna be missed.

Soldier's Bane from Watcher's Keep. Draining 10 Stamina per hit is a nice trick against Bosses. Halfway through the fight and they can't use activated abilities anymore (at least, they couldn't before 1.02).

With a venom, the important thing is not so the aditional damage, but the effect like slow enemies ,drain mana/stamina...this is the  important question. I like soldier/mage's bane

Mage's Bane on maleficars and emissaries, Soldiers Bane on Drakes and stuns (stacked even) on any tough boss.

For that matter on dragons, having an archer use elf arrows is pretty nifty.

I <3 stuns.

Only one used thus far as a CE, and that is rat poison. It works very well; even gets a cutscene....

I find selling them works just fine, and keeps inventory straight.

Quiet Death and Concentrated Crows Poison for slow chance to stun extra dps and in Quiet Death's case chance to insta kill low health opponentns. Soulrot Coating and Demonic Poison and Concentrated Demonic Poison for extra dps. While nothing seems to resist extra spirit damage natrure damage can sometimes be resisted.

I've not worked as much with mage Bane or Soldiers Bane.  The few times I used them I didn't notice much difference but maybe I just haven't  experimented enough.   One great non poison way for disabling Mages is the Dead Thaig Shanker dagger you get from Shale's personal quest it has an Interrupts spell casting feature which makes most non Boss level mages your personal ***** by keeping them from casting a single spell as long as your cutting them.

Quiet Death is the even more powerful version of Concentrated Crows Poison. Adding a possible insta kill to the Contrated Crows Poisons Slow Stun and extra dps. Stacking both and using dual weapon sweep for maximun dosage makes most enemies helpless.

Spoiler.

I tried this on Loghain while while he was Dirty Fighting Stunned and he was helples for the rest of the fight. Barely able to lift his sword he look a couple of clumsy swings that missed by a mile ad I took him down without taking a single hit.

Neither Crewws Poison Concentrated Crows Poison or Quiet Death can be found bought or looted in their completed forms. They must be Crafted. The Concentrated Crows Poion recipe can be Found in Denerim at Cesars shop as soon as you have the gold for it Quiet Death recipe becomes available a Cesar's shop once you've completed all the Trial of Crows Quests and spared Master ingnacio. Choose the dialogue option that says Master Ignacio mention some special tems and and he'll open his special reserve which inclues the recipes for Quiet Death and Concentrated Demonic Poison. Demoinic Poison gets dropped in Awakening but I've never seen it dropped in Origins. And Demonic extract is somewhat finite.

I believe the Andraste's Arrows from the Haven shop might have the same Interrupts spell casting affect as the dead Thiag Shanker . But their ungodly expensive per arrow and can only be found in the Haven Shop, which will be close for business soon after finding due to the Ashes Quest so buy soon if your buying
