Everyone may love Garrus, but that's because he's awesome and consistently useful.

Liara can never die, except for the insanely improbably chance that you A: have a really, really low EMS score and B: Actually use her as a squadmate.

I don't hate Liara, but to pretend she ISN'T Bioware's little blue squid pet is denial of the highest order.

Just because her existence is canon doesn't make her the favourite, if anything people would hate on her for that (which they do). I'm sure there'd be more people at Bioware that think, Garrus > Liara.

The writer's pet? Maybe. Bioware's pet? doubtful.

What exactly would be the distinction between those two be? The writers certainly represent at least aspects of Bioware; I don't see the two groups and being mutually exclusive.

Bioware has their own personal Janitor team, and Liara is their pet. It is very different from a writer's pet.

Let's count off...

In ME1 she is...
An achelologist,
Is the only person who gets an entire mission devoted to recruiting her
Gets her own room
And was neither well connected nor influential

In ME2
Gets an entire DLC for her.
Is an Influencal information broker, and is well conected,

In ME3
She is on mars as an arcelogist and a Information Broker
Can only be kill via Exiding low EMS
has the most lines of any squadmate

Exactly, and while they might have to clean up the restrooms and polish the floors, no one else at Bioware gets to "embrace eternity" on their lunch hour.

I suppose it could be, but I guess there's not a lot of difference between being Bioware's pet and the writer's pet.

Epic Facepalm ...
In ME2 she is not you squadmember so if she has or hasn´t her DLC it doesn´t matter. If you want look from this point of view than we can say that Tali and Garus are also BioWare pets because they are involved in all three ME games as squadmembers.

Liara is the writer's pet.

Garrus is Shepard's pet.

That is all.

Personally, I hope there is a massive plot twist involving Liara, and that that is the reason she is forced on players.

I don't mind that Liara is the writers pet. If it wasn't her it would be another character. Same whine, different name Image IPB

In ME1 Wrex is the only character you can choose to skip, all the others are "forced".

As for Liara, if you don't like her, don't talk to her. Simple.

I like Liara, but the idea that she is Shepard's canon romance is a bit....yeah.

Garrus is skippable if you get Wrex first.

Except for those times where you have no choice to interact with her, such as the beginning of the game, the Eden Prime mission, Thessia, and when she tells you about the Asari monastery.

I understand it's probably really old to hear people complaining about Liara, but it's not like you can actually completely ignore her in any of the games, so I am sure that point is just as grinding to the people who don't like her.

There's a whole slew of characters you cannot ignore in the game, both squadmates and general NPCs. Some I like, some I don't. But I like that not all characters are likeable. It makes the characters more real. And yes, real life is anything but balanced.

Hmm, only people I've seen saying that are (90% of the time) Talimancers, which is ironic since Tali has been painfully forced into every game.

That was the nail in the coffin. When your Shepard is dying and romanced Miranda.......he thinks of Liara.
Yea she isn't a writers pet.
Did i mention she only dies if the galaxy gets vaporised at the very end ?
She has her own DLC and has 2 comics dedicated to her ?
She is the only one to have a full romance arc with 3 romance scenes ?
She has the most dialogue in ME3 and Shepard isn't allowed to hate her ?

Don't forget that you can't kill Liara during two games, while all others are expendables. Only Liara will always appear in ME3, and chance to kill her is nigh impossible unless you realy want to. I don't like how she gets XO cabin while Miranda can't get to Normandy.

Personally I love Liara, have nothing bad to say about her really. This also doesn't seem like a serious thread, so I'll add more flame to the fire lol

- She is the one that recovers Shepard's body before Cerberus revives him
- She is the one that discovers the existence of le crucible plans
- She has the most galaxy wide pull of any squad member bar Shepard
