If you somehow hadn't guessed it by now, this thread contains spoilers about Dragon Age: Asunder. Fairly warned be thee, says I.
So you know how Asunder ends with Wynne performing a heroic sacrifice to save Evangeline after Lambert skewers her? That was very sad and all, but I just realized that the ending is even more depressing than I first realized.
Wynne had been helping Shale a way she could become a dwarf yet again. It just occured to me that, with Wynne's death, Shale has lost not only her best friend but also her best hope of ever becoming "soft and fleshy." In time, she'll probably forget that she ever wanted to be something other than a golem.
The Ending of Asunder Is Even Sadder Than I Thought

First: I had called Wynne's death in Asunder long ago. True story.
Secondly, and more importantly/on topic: I doubt Shale will forget, nor do I think she'll give up either. Remember that the Warden is potentially the person that inspired her to seek out such a method. I'm willing to bet she'd travel to Tevinter on her own, crushing pigeons along the way.
And when Magisters try and claim her for their own use, she gets up close to them and pretends to talk in a dry monotone.... and then crushes their head.
Hell, I'm willing to bet that Alistair will find Shale in Tevinter in the new comic.

I'm sure Shale can handle herself just fine.
I found Wynne to be a hypocritical, self-righteous nag at the best of times, so I'm not really sad that she dies. She had already lived longer than she really should have, and her final act was a selfless one, for the son she had known for only a short time. I think that's a pretty good way to go, all things considered.

I think a lot of people expected Wynne would die, given that everyone who played Origins already knew she was living on borrowed time.
I don't find her death all that sad either. I enjoyed her as a character, though I did find her to be excessively preachy and heavy-handed with the lectures. But I don't see her death as sad because she CHOSE to die. She already knew she had outlived her time, and I believe she agreed with Rhys on some of his accusations about her need to be a crusader. But anyway, she wasn't cut down, she didn't die a tragic death, alone in a bed with coverlets pulled up to her chin, remembering glory days she could never have again. No, at the end, she willfully chose to let go of her life. So yeah, excellent way to go. On your own terms, at the time and place of your choosing.
I don't think Shale is likely to suffer memory loss again. At least insofar as it seems it was her thirty-year stasis that resulted in her amnesia in the first place. And we don't know what she and Wynne were able to learn, if anything at all. I wonder if further exploration of her story could mean a visit to Tevinter...

Yup. It takes place after The Silent Grove, picking up where it left off. It's called.... Those Who Speak I think.
