The Dragon Age: Origins Toolset won't open, and I get an error message stating that it can not connect to the database. I've tried reconfiguring the toolset and uninstalling/reinstalling it, but nothing seems to work.

Update: After checking the wiki, and following instructions, I still cannot access the Toolset. MY SQL Server (BWDATOOLSET) refuses to run, nor can I manually start it. This is the most obvious error I can see, though there is probably an underlying cause I missed.
Please help!:?

Does this bump indicate the WIKI didn't help you?

Yes. I edited my first post with the new information, but it didn't reset the thread...

I'm guessing it's some admin issue with getting the rights to run the SQL server? I'm on XP, and never had these issues, so perhaps someone else can chime in.

Yes, it seems mostly centered around the admin rights. Did you try the setting of the access rights as described in the wiki?

What finally worked for me was the following: Download the express sql from MS. Install it as Admin. Be sure to check the box for adding the "sa" user to the admin group while installing, around 2./3. window in install sequence. Install the toolset now. If the toolset complains again during install click retry and not cancel.Oc uninstall the toolset before the precedure.

I don't think it's the admin rights. I'm set up to run everything as admin, and a previous installation of Dragon Age/Toolset worked perfectly. It was only after I reinstalled Dragon Age and the Toolset that this started up, though I was able to create a new module and upload it into a save game.

As far as I remember I did everything the same the second time as the first, nor have I changed anything else on my computer.

Hmm..

When you say re-install, did you install the new version over the old one, or did you uninstall the toolset first? If the latter, did you make sure the DB wasn't removed, and then when you installed again, did you make sure to "not" install SQL again?

I ask this, because I ran into a similiar issue where I removed SQL when doing an uninstall, and then when installing again, SQL was never installed properly. This was because the removal failed somewhere, so even though the SQL service should have been removed, it was still there. Thus, anytime I tried to run the service, it failed, because remnants of it were still there from the initial uninstall.

Hope the above makes sense, I'm a little tired...

Tried to install toolset today and used the solutions on the wiki to try and get it to work. Thing just refuses to work so I have to uninstall it. Why is this toolset so ****y, why can it not work like the fallout 3 one, never had a problem with that thing? I ****ing hat this toolset.

Note: I'm just venting my frustration of spending the entire afternoon getting this piece of **** to work.

Edit: After posting I tried the solution listed in the link below.

http://www.evansims....-windows-7-x64/

still nothing (I think this was meant for the 1.00 build and I was using the 1.01 build).  I uninstalled the toolset and decided to reinstall the it one more time and a guess what, the ****er decided to work, no problems whatsoever.  Maybe It did not install right the first time or something like that.

I had the same problem and had to run this ....

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

it removes some files that windows update wasn't suppose to install, or uninstalled correctly

this link was in the trouble shooting section of the wikki, but since I had never installed the program that was mention, I didn't think that problem applied to me. I tried running this installer cleaner out of pure desperation and .....

it WORKED!!! ;0

BTW ... I also had to run windows update manualy so that it would update the sql server 2005

Challseus: When this started up, I had just uninstalled and reinstalled the toolset, created an module and uploaded it into the game. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling again, but this time it wouldn't work at all. Both times I completely removed (I think...) the database and reinstalled it.

back pain: Thankfully I still have Windows Vista, though it still doesn't work...:crying:

Hammer Fang: Did you manually pick which programs you were cleaning, or did you just hit select all? I have several programs that I'd rather not get rid of...:innocent:

I don't recall it asking for option, I believe the cleaner is for an "accidental" windows update, and is specific to a certain program, that was installed but wasn't supposed to be.

Huh. I used the link you posted and downloaded the program. When I ran it, it popped a list and asked which ones I wanted to clean up. Needless to say, I exited out right there.

hmmm, .... look in the wikki, it states what program is causing problem, maybe that can help you narrow it down?

Another thing you might try is uninstalling Toolset and SQL, then manually installing SQL Server Express 2008 (instead of the 2005 version; just download it from the microsoft website), then installing Toolset without SQL server, but with the database.

Not from my own experience, but i've heard from several people that it helped them to get the Toolset working on Vista or Windows 7.

It sounds like an excellent idea, and I started on it till I figured out that I can't seem to download the 2008 version. Do you know if these people had to download and use a "Microsoft Web Platform Installer" to get it, or is there another way?

Try this page, but read carefully to see which download you need:

:( Didn't work. I downloaded the correct software and server installation, reinstalled the Toolset, but still nothing. I going to see if I can scrub the the toolset and attendant server programs off the harddrive and start over, though I hold no hopes.
If this keeps up, I'll just fall back to the time-honored method of begging and pleading through project request...

P.S: Can any moderator delete iw4o's post(s)? It's trying to upload some program that's labeled as harmful every time you open the thread.

I wouldn't mind trying to help you some more, but I would need some more info, like:

- what kind of error do you get when you try to start the SQL service manually?

- any errors regarding this in the event viewer?
