The error that I got when trying to manually start the SQL server went along the lines of it timing out or something blocking it. As far as I know, that is the only error message I received, other than the initial startup error. I don't know anything about the event viewer, so I wouldn't know where to begin there. (Seriously, where is it?)

Before I forget, thanks for all the help from the OP on down.

Check your folder structure, I found on Windows 7 that the program doesn't have the rights to properly create the paths to the db. What I did was turn of UAC and gave my account full access to the root DA folder. This si the only way I got it to work.

@EthrenDiak: Never mind about the eventviewer; don't think the error will be much clearer there than you already noted.

Another thing you might try: http://blog.techdrea...denied-sql.html
It has some clear instructions on granting Administrative right to SQL Server 2005 on Vista, even when the account you use has administrative rights in Windows. Dunno if it applies to SQL Server 2008 as well....

And just another thing to try: Open SQL Server Configuration Manager (from your start menu somewhere), click on the SQL Server Services. Double-click the "SQL Server (BWDATOOLSET)". Switch from build-in account "Network Service" to "Local System", click Apply and try starting the service.
[If this doesn't fix it, you might want to switch it back to the original account]

Last thing to check: where are the toolset database files (bw_dragonage_content.mdf and bw_dragonage_content.ldf)? When installed correctly, the Toolset 1.0.1 version should put them in C:\\Program Files\\DAODB\\Data\\

Thanks, Kaldir, but before I go delving into my computer again, I'm going to try to completely remove the Toolset and SQL from the computer. The reinstallations I've tried indicated I haven't completely removed everything, though the only way I know to do that is dropping the OS and reinstalling it. Is there any method that's not so drastic?

By the way, the Data folder in DAOBD is empty...

That folder being empty suggests the new database (with the 1.0.1 toolset) was not created.

Completely removing sounds like a plan. First step for that would be uninstalling Toolset and then SQL Server from Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs (although, that might be named different on Vista; no experience with Vista myself). Then there's some folders to check, and if needed to manually delete.
But before you go uninstalling and reinstalling again, there might be a way to manually create that database.

I'm off to bed though; will try searching for some info on both that later this week. Will see if I find something useful for you.

Also, try searching if the database (bw_dragonage_content.mdf) is located elsewhere on your harddisk (C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age\\tools\\toolssql\\Data\\ for instance, where the 1.0.0 toolset put it). If you find it, please post where you found it and the size.
