My PC is a chaotic good cleric.  He has Imoen with him and Xzar and Xan.  My idea is a guy who wants to do good in the world but his chaotic nature has him hanging with the wrong crowd.

Here's the problem...

I've always found it difficult to tilt anything evil in BG.  Opportunities to lower reputation are few and far between while I somtimes accidentaly gain reputation.  The only ways I have found to lower reputation is to drop it dramatically and through harsh means (killing innocents, for example).

Any other ideas about how to attain a slighlty lowered reputation?

Get caught stealing. Offer a bribe. Do a runner.

Pickpocket Algernon. If it fails he'll attack and you'll be forced to kill him. Make sure that he doesn't get downstairs or the entire inn will go hostile.

Do all the quests for the wrong reasons and thereby avoid the rep increase.

Don't protect yourself against confusion spells etc. That way you might unintentionally kill innocents. It's happened to me whilst playing a good guy.

However I find it difficult myself. Guess that I'm just not evil enough. (Actually perhaps I am, it's just that my evil acts don't result in reputation loss.)

The shopkeeper at Nashkel Carnival refused me service after I raised my nose at his discounted potions. I had everyone but Xzar leave the tent. Xzar then dispatched of the arrogant pos. -5 reputation. Now at 9.

Lord Binky the Bufoon just went down for the count. That's a -3. Sitting at 6 for reputation. Xzar is happy.

There are a number of quests with evil alternatives that drop reputation. For instance you could kill the archaeologist excavating the tomb or (my favourite) flood the mines before letting the slaves escape.

IMO the character needs to be chotic neutral rather than chaotic good to do these things.

IMO it depends on how you want to role play it, YES, tricking Riggilo into being trapped inside Durlag's tower is totally evil as any paladin will loudly complain but bribing a noble (8 X 1000 gold) into paying up for his sweet daughters virtue isn’t all that evil... and pays well!

Just curious how you manage to kill Lord Binky the Buffoon? I never tried it, but my experience in trying to pickpocket him he disappears extremely fast after the dialogue ends (and there's hardly any time before the dialogue starts either). Does the same problem occur when trying to kill him?

Ranged weapons when you first see him.

That or a spell such as command or sleep would also work.

He is VERY fragile, so you don't need to do much damage.

I haven't come across that. How do you go about it?

It’s Eldoths personal quest. Pick up Skie from Entar's Estate and go talk to Elkart at the Blade and Stars for 1000g then rest 10 times before talking to him again, you can do this a total of 8 times (8000g) but trying for 9 times & Elkart gets fed-up then calls the flaming fist guards on you... killing them is a major rep loss.
