So far it seems that BW were considering it at some point but the game got scrapped, apparently its a series thay are lookin into developing but are trying to find the right way or doing so which basically means it isn't a priority for them. But who knows, over the next year or so BW haven't got much to announce so we'll see.

But, alas, we could all get surprised and see it headlined in Game Informer magazine one day xD

Another developer in the Mass Effect forums (recently) had used Mass Effect and Jade Empire to illustrate the point that games that make a lot of money tend to have money reinvested back into the franchise. I took that to mean that the reason there hasn't been a Jade Empire 2 is because either the original didn't make a lot of money (I really don't know how well it did), or because it just didn't make as much money as games like Dragon Age and Mass Effect and so is just a lower priority.

I mean, come on Bioware, this is something worth looking back into, it's something different that isn't really explored too well (Eastern culture/religion) and to throw all of that into an RPG with great dialogue and a really nice story would probably rake in the cash now-a-days. Even though this would be technically a "sequel" many people of today's "gaming" have no clue this game ever existed, so in many people's eyes it would be a completely new concept.
This could have some serious potential.

Well possibly, now with Mass Effect out of the way (hopefully), they can get back to Jade Empire and try not to screw up this IP, too.
well considering the success of the mass effect franchise, and the fact that they did in fact fix the endings of the third one, I imagine theyre not quite done with it yet, "controversy" or no. That being said considering that was the final game in the franchise's first trilogy, they could very well go the halo route and spend some time doing other games (technically, yes bungie continued making halo games, I just mean they diddnt make halo games that really moved the story of the universe forward, they just made other games in the universe), like jade empire.

Now, the average American does NOT want to play as a simple Chinese man. Moreover, these games only excel in Asian Communities, so no money is made. Final Fantasy is HUGE... in JAPAN. Or other asian related games.
Unless the main character is White, the game won't sell. Even with race customizations.
No American wants a whole cast of pure Chinese people, cause if your asian, doesn't matter if you are Iraqi, Pakistani, or Korean, you are Chinese.
Mass Effect excels because it is all races and colors.
Star Wars (KOTOR) is the exact same.
But a pure asian won't fly so well :/

What you people don't understand, (I am half Korean, so bear with me) is that these games are targeted at USA Americans. The era of Karate from the 80's and Ninjas and Bruce is over. Hell, Jet Li and Jackie Chan are grandpas now. The last martial artist still acting decently is Donnie Yen from that time.

As evidenced by the long string of successful multi-racial kung fu movies Hong Kong and Hollywood have put out, right? Play that violin somewhere else, you're wrong. People expect and prefer asians in their kung fu.

A far bigger problem would be a disinterest in a far eastern historic/fantasy setting
unless (of course) there was a recent succesful film or TV series with such a setting

The reason I like JE is because there are no white people. Americans aren't that bad.
