I have been hesitating to play diplomatic Hawke because I am a sarastic jerk with a temper.
And kissing behind [figuratively of course] would just irritate me.
especially during the conversations with templars.
But I thought it might be funny to have a :lol:diplomatic Hawke who was a total jerk and did terrible things.

It's been so long since I played. I'd have to go back and see what's what again. I only remember certain (sometimes sick) details and a general story right now, but thankfully, my code worked in Origin on my gaming laptop and I'm at work with it so I can just DL it in less than an hour. (At home, it would take more than a day -- sometimes two.)

I guess I'll get that started.

(Brought both laptops in so I could test the policies on the new firewall before I install it to replace one that we've outgrown.)

It's been a while, but Diplomatic Hawke is no more of a pushover than, say, Paragon Shepard is.

I only played a rogue Hawke who didn't want to help anyone who wasn't going to give him some sort of obvious benefit, but I still got talked into doing people's fetch quests anyways. I feel like it would make more sense to simply offer to do all that stuff from the goodness of Hawke's heart, since you'll end up having to do it anyways. At least in that case, you could say that you did it because Hawke wanted to, not because someone else wanted Hawke to.

You should have no problem with this since essentially you are just playing a clever manipulative bastard instead of an obvious one. Occasionally though this will not work because of the way certain plot lines and characters are written. So if you want to be essentially pro-mage but don't agree with Anders and want to rival him, then you have to choose the aggressive options when talking to him, particularly if commenting upon his decsion to merge with Justice. Much of the time, though, the only real difference you dialogue choices make is to your voice overs. A diplomatic Hawke does not have to be any more of a push over than either of the others. In fact it is quite funny when dealing with the templars because they seem to think you are so great when really you are running around behind their backs undermining them at every opportunity.

Overly polite and tends to be naive.

I don't believe that diplomatic Hawke is any more a pushover than Duncan, who was wise enough to know that kindness was a powerful tool of manipulation.

I'm assuming you're talking about the Hawke who is actually a pushover; despite the fact that the "good" responses (the wings, I think?) are in the same dialogue wheel slot as the diplomatic (I forget what the icon was for this), I don't believe that they are both exclusive to each other.

One of my favorite playthroughs was as a Hawke with an impeccable politeness and manner, and who schmoozed all the people he could, only to be revealed as a greedy, self-serving bastard whenever he stops talking and starts doing.

Let me ask you a question. If you took your real life self and had them fight your Hawke who happened to be diplomatic, would you be willing to fight Hawke? Your answer will determine if (s)he is a pushover.

Sarcastic Hawke is the only option. The game is 100% better if you take all his options.

I like sarcastic/funny Hawke, but she is bad at extortion, will always failed extorting people. She don't even scare the dock worker and lost 2 gold in bribery for information in act 1 (and the reward is 2 gold) :-(

That is one of the thing i don't like in DA2, unlike DA:O, in DA:O we have the option to intimidate and we know what level we are to intimidate people, so we can choose between intimidate or persuade,. In DA2, if going to sarcastic/funny character, will always failed intimidating.

I wouldn't stick to just one section of the dialogue wheel all game. I'm usually sarcastic, occassionally polite and genuine (mostly toward certain characters), and every now and then aggressive when the situation calls for it. I like my Hawke to feel like a real person rather than a single-note drone who acts a certain way no matter the circumstances.

I never understand only take one colour option, I never do that, but anyway my canon Hawke was diplomatic dominant, and it was just that diplomatic. Mercy be on anyone who made her mad, which per act 3, was really easy to do.

My sarcastic Hawke wasn't sarcastic or witty all the time. Simply most of the time. Talking about templars and mages was a surefire way to get my Hawke aggressive.

No. But it's also subjective. If you prefer a more aggressive personality type, you might think so regardless of wether or not Hawke really is a pushover. From my memory, no Hawke is not a pushover, just more civil.

I'm starting a new Hawke as soon as I've finished my newest Warden (Only Orzammar, Landsmeet and Final Battle to go), so having only played an aggressive Hawke in the past, I'd also like to know if a diplomatic Hawke is perhaps... A naive idealist whose everyone's best friend, if so I think I'll give sarcastic Hawke a whirl instead and if that doesn't appeal to me either I've always got good old aggressive Hawke to fall back on I guess.

Hawke: Whoever you are, come out of hiding....unless you're a dragon, then feel free to stay hiding.

Hawke can kill, I'll give him that. I never stuck with only aggressive or diplomatic - when I used to play, I chose what fit. Carver made my ethnically Antivan Hawke aggressive, but he became diplomatic after dealing with other people (aside from Carver).

Well mine is a psycho blood mage who is going to be mostly diplomatic except to Carver.
