Small vocal minority. Most people don't even visit forums, because there's too busy having fun playing the game.

Vocal minority or not, we as fans do not own the rights to the content. Mass Effect and everything about it is property of Bioware. I'll leave it at that.

I agree .. the numbers look similar, but there was also the price drop that was occuring.  By the 3rd-4th week, you could get the game for $25-$35 at some retailers.  With ME2, I bought my son a copy of the game about 6 or 7 weeks after it released and it cost the same as the one I picked up the day it opened.

If you want to talk about a completely different set of numbers, that's fine. But I don't know any place to get average retail prices over the lifetime of the game. ( And I think you overpaid for ME2.)

Anyway, I imagine that the gameplay tracking data is actually the decisive factor here, and there's no way they're letting us see that. sparky mentions this downthread a bit.

Hello again...

I just wanted to share a few observations about the "size" of the extended cut which is 1.9 Gigs!!

Mass Effect 3 demo is 1.63 Gigs.
Mass Effect 3 complete game is 14 Gigs.
From Ashes DLC is 0.62 Gigs.
Rebellion DLC is 0.03 Gigs.
Resurgence DLC is 0.05 Gigs
Mass Effect 2 Realm of the Shadow Broker is 1.52 Gigs

1.9 Gigs is a LOT of stuff... Hell there could even be game play and boss fights with all the promised "closure and explanations" in a file that big... I'm really intrigued to find out but not over exited. I know better than to raise my hopes too high! However... IT speculations have no reasons to be extinguished yet! The file size is enough to keep it alive until the 26th... We shall then find out!

There is no boss fights. Thats been said many times on Twitter. (which is their media of choice)
On each playthrough there's about 10 minutes of extra cutscenes to reflect your choices, spread from Cerbus to the end, in small bits.
That's it.

Given their intrusive data mining Bioware/EA know the true facts and figures (that they haven't released with the MP figures). If it was only a minority that were "upset/complaining" then with their usual blunt force PR Bioware would be shouting it from the roof tops that less than x% were being silly.

That they even put money into the EC says they acknowledge the car crash they produced without saying that. If they didn't see a threat to the IP they would never have done this.

Yes they own the rights to the IP but we own the wallets. It's a game of chicken.

Will probably be seeing what the reaction to the DLC is before I buy it. No offence, Bioware, but if it doesn't fix the MASSIVE plot-holes you left in the original endings, Then I'm not going to "fix" my game with a 1.9 GB download. Despite the awe-inspiring amount of content that implies (I'm pretty sure that's more than FF7 and FF8 combined).

..the DLC is *free* U do know that right??  ;)

And no, the Stargazer scene didn't prove anything of the sort. It proves that one planet didn't have functioning relays or a functional QEC. It said nothing at all about any other planets in the galaxy.

Nonsense. Why would entire systems be left out of a rebuilding effort?

For the same reason nobody visited Ilos before the Mu Relay was rediscovered. Any rebuilding effort is only going to cross the galaxy at the speed of ships, unless you're linking to a system that still has a QEC. Colonizing the whole galaxy is going to take a while, since ME universe ships aren't very much better than Star Trek ships.

Ilos had been visited. How else would it be known that it was home to Prothean ruins before Shepard went there? Liara certainly knew there were substantial Prothean ruins.
And why would a Sol-adjacent system with habitable, Earth-like planets be ignored when the Sol system is now home to billions of aliens with nowhere to go? It makes no sense and you know it.

Yay! Single player stuff! Not quite what I wanted (I want fun little missions... like Lair of the Shadow Broker... That was fun and funny... mostly funny...), but, it is a sign of the things I want to be almost here!

Well, looks like it is time to attempt replaying (none of my new game plus saves work) to see what ever this thingy is! And to play multiplayer to get my readiness high!

You and me both.  I'm just going to spam a pile of bronze games to get my readiness back up.  No challenge, just slaughter.  Plus I just started in on the databad app again.

Depends on what kind of stuff we're talking about. Movies -- as opposes to in-engine cinematics -- burn an awful lot of disk space. The existing ME3 endgame movies take up something like 1.6 GB.

That's probably what I'll do. I started on datapad again, so I'll just see how far that gets me until the release date.

great, maybe now they can actually fix some of the glitches that this game is ridden with preferably starting with the Black Hole.

You sure you've played ME1? From the Codex:

Like the ancient human city of Troy, Ilos is a world known only through second-hand sources. References to Ilos have been found at several other Prothean ruins, though direct study of the world is unlikely to occur.Ilos lies in a remote area of the Terminus Systems only accessible by the legendary Mu Relay. Four thousand years ago, the Mu Relay was knocked out of position by a supernova and lost. Since then, Ilos and its cluster have been inaccessible.Occasionally, a university will organize an expedition to chart a route to Ilos using conventional FTL drive. These never get beyond the planning stages due to the distance and danger. The journey could take years or decades, passing through the hostile Terminus Systems and dozens of unexplored systems.

No visits.

And why would a Sol-adjacent system with habitable, Earth-like planets be ignored when the Sol system is now home to billions of aliens with nowhere to go? It makes no sense and you know it.

Who says the Stargazer's world is Sol-adjacent? Edit: Oh.... I see what you're assuming there.

And where do you get that figure of "billions"? The Migrant Fleet  - "the largest array of spacefaring vessels in the known galaxy" - only held 17 million and it was crammed to the gills. Are you really saying that the other races crammed over 50 times that many sentients into their ships?

I'm sure Bioware will be ready for another round of damage control just in case. This sort of thing happened with another game I played. Their forums got locked for a month, and they were very strict on what kinds of messages were posted after the lock was lifted. Anything that was against the new game, bam, locked, deleted. Or in some cases, people were banned from the forums.

I hope it we don't see another round of that for the Extended Cut. These guys at Bioware put their heart and soul into making this (free of charge, mind you) so that we could get some closure to the things left unanswered. I'm sure thankful they are doing it.
