So, I just picked up this game... downloaded the tool set.

I have been looking everywhere for an answer to this, in web searches, this site, the toolset wiki, but I have not found a definitely yes or no.

The View Resource window is too dark, having a black background, and I can barely see the asset. Is there any way to either change the background color or make the window lighter?

That is, when I right click and choose View Resource for (ex:)  Items > _Global > Weapons, Melee > Longswords > gen_im_wep_** , I can barely see the resource.

Thanks.

I believe if you select the Tools > Options menu option; then in the Options window select the Level Editor tab and set the Viewport Background Color to something lighter it will set the background colour for lots of the editors (I know it makes no sense).

However there is a catch: while the toolset remembers the setting it only applies it to the other viewports when you create or open a level resource so you have to do that each time you open the toolset and want the lighter background colour.

Note the Material Editor, Morph Editor and VFX Editor have their own Viewport Background Color setting.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Unfortunately, I tried what you described above but it doesn't work for me. Although, I found a small "workaround,": changing the MaterialType momentarily to silverite makes the model lighter

Did you open/create a level resource (level not an area) after changing the setting?

Presumably this is a bug, but if you open the material editor first, most other windows that normally have a black background inherit a white one instead. It's useful sometimes, but can often obscure things just as much as black.

If I do that I get a grey background for both Material Editor and, for example, Item Editor however this is probably because I have all the art resource editor's backgrounds set to 0.2,0.2,0.2 (i.e. dark grey).

So I did some testing and set the Level, Material, Morph and VFX editors' backgrounds to different colours. I opened one, then a design resource, checked the background colours, opened another, checked again and so on.

So it seems that every editor background will be set to the colour of the last art resource editor's background. So you open an item resource the background is default black (no way to set it). Lets say you have your level editor background set to yellow and you create/open a level: now both editors' backgrounds will now be yellow. Lets say your morph editor's background is set to pale blue and you create/open a morph: now all three editors will be pale blue. And so on ...

Therefore the best approach is to set the background of all 4 art editors (even if you don't use them) to the same colour and something that you can work with. You can then use any of them to set the colour of the design editors.
