Is the Soldier class in Mass Effect 3 single player any good?

I've completed single player with Adept, Engineer, Vanguard and Infiltrator.
Each of those four classes were amazing!

Is Sentinel any good too? I hear so many great things about sentinels being the overlooked gem.
I hear so many horrible things from fans saying the soldier has been "nerfed!"

Well, I beat game as soldier 8 times and haven't played as other classes outside demo or past Mars, so go figure. :)
However, my PTs were before latest patch (1.03, I think), not sure how much they changed, with exception of no banshee knockback now.
Speaking of "nerfing" - I don't like implementation of Adrenaline rush, it's too long for me, even on grade one and I care not about damage bonus, though I'd trade it on faster AR easily.
Concussive shot "as is" is just strange - I never was able to "sit down" (Zaeed) more than 1 target, even with area progression. Not sure for triggering tech combo - I played with severe overload (+200%), so I haven't used CS for that.
Played on PC with CE (Valiant/Crusader mostly) and later with Indra.

It does just fine with a Falcon+Cryo or Pulse Rifle+Inferno, but that can be duplicated by the Vanguard.

To me the Soldier is a Vanguard or Infiltrator with less utility depending on how you play it. Sentinel next to Infiltrator/Vanguard is prob the most powerful class. It is basically an Adept with Chain Overload.

soldier can be pretty fun over all and have 2 kinds of playstyles you can go for.

1) Built around use of all weapons. You take the best of every weapon you want. This build will push the CDs of Adrenaline Rush (AR), Concussive shot & any power you take that has a CD back but will allow you to use the best weapon for any situation.

2) Build more around the use of AR. For this kind of build you want to pack a little lighter so that you can use AR often.

Personally I went through once with both and enjoyed the second more. For weapons for the second I went with the N7 Valkyrie X w/ Barrel & ammo mods, the N7 Valiant X w/ Concentration & piercing Mods, & as a back up the N7 Hurricane w/ ULM & ammo.

Use of ammo powers is pretty big and the soldier can buff them to be a little stronger then their basic forms. On the Valkyrie I used Incendiary Ammo, On the Valiant I used Disruptor & on the hurricane I used Cryo.

AR I went w/ full damage, time Dilation & restoration of shields. As an added bonus the time dilation of AR & the sniper concentration mod do stack so you can significantly slow time down to get your shots in.

One last suggestion I would make is to take defense matrix as a bonus power. You can either leave it active for the added damage reduction or if you want to play w/ a slightly better CD to AR you can leave it deactivated and double tap activate/purge it to restore your shields to full.

In weapon damage department, soldier's aren't not as deadly as before, but still enough to get the job done. All you need is a rapid fire weapon and explosion burst from incendiary ammo. But that said, what really sets the ME3 soldier apart from the ME2 and ME1 ones is the ability to be a caster-soldier as an alternative, meaning really taking advantage of the amplification ability. They can essentially cast cyro blast, incinerate, or overload without the need of a squad-mate. True, the damage and effects is incomparable to that of the real deal with the exception of cyro blast, but it makes it up by having a cool-down time rivaling that of throw. Thus, spamming concussive shot is viable since they can now actually make a big enough difference in a SP battlefield.

Even if you don't like spamming concussive shot, with a few well-planned CC shots, you can set up cyro, flame, and tech burst easily, and detonate them with a bonus power that is strong enough to detonate the explosions (eg. carnage and proximity mine).

Also, the sentinel is still the most versatile of all classes. You can opt to be a tank, a weapon specialist, a support caster, a biotic bomber, or even a melee specialist. And within a mission, it is entirely possible to switch between any of these roles on a whim. You don't really need your squad-mates.

Sorry, what's the point in Adrenaline Rush? 8vs10 shots to strip Banshee's armour from Black Widow, 12vs15 from Valiant (that's with IEA and with Cerberus armour) - that's the damage bonus I have to lay off my weapons selection for? Valiant will cut through small-mid game like hot knife through butter, dealing 1-2 headshots kills and big game will require some hammering regardless. Not sure even no knockback banshee would be problem without Adrenaline.

Soldiers are perfectly fine. They did get depowered somewhat compared to ME2, thanks to a large decrease in AR's power, many tech/biotic skills being made more powerful, and being the only class that gets hit hard by the weapon weight system (whereas casters benefit from it hugely). Ultimately, though, insanity is still pretty easy. Incendiary ammo with explosive burst makes any fast firing weapon more than usable, and headshots are now really powerful (so AR is still great, despite the nerf).

As for sentinels: overload and the warp/throw combo are two of the biggest jumps in power compared to ME2, and (just like all casters) sentinels have really short cooldowns (even with tech armor) thanks to the utterly broken weapon weight system.

I play as Soldier lately. I do decent most of the time.

Max AR - The damage bonus is great and time dialation lets you pop off head shots with the Carnifex or w/e you want quickly.

Max Frag +2 +radius

Con Shot is nice when in doubt.

I use Cryo ammo none of the others.
Max out the rest and get Barrier or Armor Piercing ammo for your extra skill.

I mainly use Assault Rifle or Pistol and rarely use SMG's or Sniper rifles. I usually try to have an AR-Shotty and Pistol. Once you learn the missions though having a SR is nice.

Depending on the party you like to use Soldier is short coming unless you like the challenge. Any of the other classes make more sense since you have 2 to 3 Soldier style characters in your selection, Garrus-James-Kaiden or Ashley.

Engineer is my favorite.

Soldier is my favorite but that's just cause I enjoy gun play more than biotic/tech powers. I always preferred using AR so I kept the weapons balanced enough to keep the recharge around 8 seconds. Soldiers in my opinion are the most versatile class, able to be specd for any kind of playstyle especially if you add in the right bonus power in which case you'll be unstoppable.

Yes it is good.  And yet it may even be the weakest class.

I'm having difficulty understanding some of the posts on this thread.

AR stands for Adrenaline Rush.
AR also stands for Assault Rifle.
