Uh oh... I installed my  copy of NWN2 for a sentimental run just now and I'm getting an error message "Could not write license data. Please contact Support for further instructions"

Hi support. what further instructions do you have for me? I'd like to play the game I've spent about 60 bucks on, few years ago y'know. Or maybe should I just download it from torrents... and every future game you release?

I'm sorry, you've provided us with too much information. We need less.

Sticky thread in the tech support forum:

social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/158/index/3116296

It would probably also help to know if you have a digital download, cd, steam install, etc.

That's the problem I'm afraid. I bought the game the day it was released in Europe, CD version. That's a few years by now. Never had any issue with it till today. Can it be that my cd-key was cracked and banned by BW? I also own Baldur's Gate 1, Baldur's Gate 2, both Icewind Dales, both Neverwinter Nights with all expansions and Knights of the Old Repulbic fellow gamer. I know my first post might sounded frustrated but that's exactly how I feel right now.

Is there some sort of direct NWN support where I can contact them via mail instead of rousing the fellow forumites? Never had any problems with the games so never looked for such.Guess I have to now.

Actually they are the only support you are going to get here. This is a forum where fellow players will help you, for free, but we also know the game better than anyone from Atari. ( and i don't think many folks are even left at Obsidian who worked on the game at this point )

Pleae review the threads on how to post in the tech support forums.

What you have provided is not enough for anyone to really have any idea of how to help.

Talking about torrents and the like, well you should realize that the only people reading this are other players, and such talk does not really come across as a threat, it does make me prefer not to help you. I can say that if it's suspected you have a warez version and you have an issue, the only solution is generally to buy an official version of some sort and see if that helps. If you don't have an official version, they are only $10-$25 at this point for the complete NWN2, you get what you pay for. ( and if you are having issues, the steam repair install feature is a great troubleshooting tool as well )

Generally though us fellow players are going to be a lot more helpful than the Atari tech support folks, but we need you to fill us in on a lot of details just to prevent us from having to guess. This means you do have to do some work, and lookup your system info, write down what version you have and the like. ( which is detailed in that link i provided )

How about posting your system specs per that link.

This is a game that came out in 2006 and had it's last release in 2009, and we are not even on Atari's forums. While there was going to be further updates, a lawsuit between Atari and Hasbro made Obisidan completely stop working on the game and canceled the last update midstream. I would not get your hopes up with getting an actual solution from Atari.

I do have some suspicions, but It would really help to know if you are on XP or 7, if you have a full hard drive and the fact that when you post all the details it tends to make it easier to know what to focus on.

Apologies, I came here seeing it's NWN2 tech forums, didn't expect it's "volunteer gamers willing to help each other because companies are wrestling forums". Thank you both for assistance. It took me 30 seconds to download a crack that allows me to play the game. It's sad but it fixed my problem. I actually had the same with Fallout 3. The Securom, or whatever was there, went nuts and I had to crack my own legal version to be able to play it. You can see I have plenty of registered games on my avatar, I'm an old RPG gamer and supporter, would never dare to pirate any.

Well i am pretty sure we could have helped, but if you are using cracks, well that kind of moves you outside the realm of who i am able to help. If that helped and it's securom, then i'd assume you did not patch your game up the latest version, as the latest version no longer uses securom anymore, but then i am guessing as you never did post your specs. ( and if you are not using the latest patch you are going to be dealing with a lot of messy issues which are corrected in the latest patch )

I am always amused by people who assume that "official" means by default you get better help than here in the forums from the volunteers. From what i've seen the volunteers here have managed to fix numerous issues, which ended up in the official patches, or are available for download. Even had one volunteer from the community get paid to do that final patch. In comparison the tech support tends to be from foreign countries where they barely speak english, are limited to boilerplate scripts, and often are paid less than minimum wage.
